Will I be penalized for using keyword rich text links on my homepage that link back to the homepage?

    and

If I use style sheet to format my text links to look like the body text, will I be penalized? The blue links look tacky.

Just trying to learn...thanks in advance for any responses.

No, but there is no much advantage doing it.

If links aren't hidden, it's ok. But if links looks like normal text, this is a usability issue, better to make them look different.

I realize there really is no benefit to linking back to the homepage, but I was told that keyword text link density is a factor in the search engine algorithyms. Am I wrong?

No, you're right but if you want to use keywords rich anchor links to your homepage, better to place them on inner pages rather to link your home from your home.
It's more effective and look less spammy.

Thanks, I am trying to link to the inner pages, but there was one or two places that only made sense linking back to the homepage and I am trying to get link text density up a bit. I know it looks spammy, thats why i was going to format it with style sheet. I just didnt want to do anything that would upset the SEs.
