My first question is are page impression ads are different from PPC ads? If yes then Where i can find such ads in my adsense account? Will we paid for clicks on such ads or only for impressions? Anybody earning decent income from such ads.. Please explain..
each advertiser has a choose to make their ads CPM (impression) and/or CPC (clicks). Image ads are most likely to be CPM which are useful to put on a forum
You have no control over which type of ad, CPM or CPC, is displayed on your site. Google tries to adjust to display whichever ad they think will make the most money. To see how much you are earning with each type of ad, go to advanced reports, in the "Show data by" box, select "Individual Ad", and then check the "Show data by targeting type".
wrong, you have total control over whether cpm ads or epc ads are displayed on your site. rockman, you can tell adsense support to turn off all cpm ads to your account... it's a wise move, because cpm ads don't pay squat, the only way that they might be of value to you is if you have a low-epc type of site, like a forum or myspace layout site.
Thanks for letting us know you can ask support to turn off cpm ads, I never knew that. Before you go ahead and do that though, You should check your cpc vs. cpm rates on your ads. I find that Google is often doing the right thing. For example I have one particularly long page where I have 3 ad blocks, one at the top, one in the middle and one at the bottom. Here are some number (made up as to not reveal my real statistics), as to how the cpc vs. cpm ads works on each ad block. Top Block CPC ads: Impressions - 100,000, eCPM $7.00 CPM ads: Impressions - 3, eCPM $0.01 Middle Block CPC ads: Impressions - 90,000 eCPM $1.50 CPM ads: Impressions - 10,000 eCPM $1.70 Bottom Block CPC ads: Impression - 70,000 eCPM $0.10 CPM ads: Impressions - 30,000 eCPM $1.00 As you can see Google increases the ratio of CPM/CPC ads shown as the value of the CPM ads go up. It seems like they are doing the right thing to make sure the value of the ad block is maximized. To me, it makes sense to let Google's algorithms try and maximize the revenue opportunity for you, instead of you manually trying to tinker with things.
my daily ecpm average is in the double digits, so i never saw any site-targeted ecpm ads... except when an advertiser bought a huge run of 'em over the entire adsense network, and google screwed me over by putting too many of 'em on my sites. it drove my daily ecpm average into the ground, so my earnings dropped like a rock... you can't trust google to do anything, they aren't even competent enough to keep the mfa crap off of their network. this forum has seen many posts where people aren't getting targeted ads on their sites... some of those people didn't even realize it until i pointed it out to 'em... on top of that lousy targeting, google now sends ads for local businesses to websites all over the country, with zero regard for geographical targeting... why would somebody in oregon want to visit a pie shop in alabama? stupid. who gets screwed over with bad geotargeting? you the publisher do, because that adsense slot could have been used for an ad that your visitors would have been interested in. i personally don't believe that you are getting $1-$1.70 per thou for adsense cpm, because all of the big cpm networks pay way well under a $1 per thou... you are lucky to get thirty cents per thou from them.
I actually have some channels that get much more than that. I guess it's just in that particular niche though, with other channels I get much lower eCPM on CPM ads. Like everything else with AdSense it pays to experiment and keep track of your numbers so you know what's going on. Don't believe anything anybody says, because even if it is true, it's not going to apply to your own site. Take everything with a grain of salt and test, test, test.
