Reading a discussion in the directories section about what makes for a quality PayDay Loan site I thought it would be interesting to see what dmoz thought. Should I be surprised to see affiliate/lead generators, redirects, broken links and "unofficial titles" ??
Well yes you should be, actually you should be so surprised that you should act like you have seen a ghost, act weird for months, post like you gone bananas on dp and other boards, so others know that infact you were actually shocked, and almost shit in your pants. Just my 2 cents . Over and Out. PS: Your call dude, who are we to tell you how to react, its called "my personal viewpoint" (where is that bunny pic , it goes here).
There are a ton of redirects, broken links, etc, in the industry. I've been in the payday loan industry for seven years and work directly with lenders who only care where the next lead is coming from.
I'm sure you can find similar in other industries as well, but I was surprised at some of the poor quality listings in dmoz in this category. You hear how affiliate sites/redirects/lead generators are not acceptable sites, but I didn't have any problems finding some listed here.
You haven't read the full text of the guideline, here is the complete text: Affiliate sites/redirects/lead generators are not acceptable sites, EXCEPT when they belong to "senior" editors.
But the guy editing that category is only editing that category with only 51 edits. I think he hacked DMOZ and put himself in as editor. They look at those sorts of categories very suspiciously and wouldn't give to a guy with no other categories.
The senior editors can edit anywhere in the directory and they don't need even to approve it by themselves. I remember awhile back when one of the editors in adult was not fast enough in approving some crappy porn sites and the meta gave him crap about why sites are not approved and the sites were approved very fast. Most editors know very well that they will not get new categories if they are not fast enough on their feet when a Meta or admin asks them to kiss his/her ass.
This is complete nonsense. Editors are under no obligation to even look at the submissions if they don't want to. My Julian, you are quite a fascinating fellow. In your delusional world you are a brave campaigner against corruption, then you tell us that you can edit an any category, then you admit you are a coward who is afraid to do anything about the corruption 'cause your are too scared. Now you are telling us all about all of the ass kissing you needed to do to get to be an editall. Your really are giving cowards a bad name Julian.
That is actually more telling about the Directory then what gworld said... Takes all kinds to edit a directory that you don't need to bother looking at submissions... I also hear there are a few editors there that actually do check submissions and some others that actually care about DMOZ.
You might have it close to exactly right. There are (allegedly) many corrupt editors and judging by all public forums there are a lot of seriously uptight editors that will write thousands of words bashing critics without admitting that the culture drives away many of the "editors there that actually do check submissions and some others that actually care about DMOZ." They seem to forget that the site is their to direct surfers to where they want to go, yet I doubt you will find many web 2.0 gurus listed there. I checked a few and only found one.
As virtually every editor who has posted here over the years has discovered DP is not the place for reasonable discussions the ODP. Until the next dumping session from Julian I shall attempt it. You are right Qryztufre . That is where the ODP is at. At some point in the past the culture evolved from we are here to help webmasters list their sites in a timely fashion to where we are today i.e. having a mantra that we are not here to process submissions. I would even go further to say that webmasters have gone from partners in the process to enemies. I think that the directory should be working towards a system where both the webmasters desire to see their sites listed and the goal of having a quality comprehensive directory can be accommodated. And I can see small steps in that direction.
Yep they can get themselves removed! Probably once Google showed favoritism towards DMOZ - begun the SEO wars have!
The editor was sidjf and the Meta was Jezebel. Editors can check in internal forum to see how nebuchadrezzar is as usual just full of it. I suppose for some one like you who supports pedophiles listings, to lie so bluntly is no big deal. How long are you going to continue to be such a low life so you can have couple of affiliate links or sell some links?
Oh good I see Julian is back. I see where you are coming from now Julian. You assume that everyone is like you, a self-confessed coward who is is scared to say anything because they might get fired. The first person you mention is a person of integrity who would complain loudly and publicly if they believed that complaints about a meta editor favoring site(s) that they were associated were being ignored. They would not be sniveling in fear like you say you are.
I know who sidjf is but it doesn't change the fact that is a public postings in internal forum that people can see by themselves. How is it going with your link selling these days? You must be quite angry that your competition is lowering the price. All the crawling and ass kissing that you have to do and not much to show for it.
I see you have given up trying to deny that you are a sniveling coward who is afraid that he might loose his big shot editall status.
