I think they still have a little more weight but not as much as they use to. All the SEO tricks that people use have lowered how they are looked at by Google. They do seem to get higher PR ratings quicker though.

Well because the sites are well aged...most have been around since the the beginning and I still do see some ranking well for various keywords in forums....That tells me if someone can post in a forum and have it showing up in a couple of days for highly comp keywords that Google is giving extreme weight and authority to them sites.

Yep...thats how I feel about this. Thats why I think Google gives weight is because of the age, respect and authority. Oh and I believe that the trust factor has taken place along time ago.

Edu links definitely improve the ranking of your website. There are lots of University that make it a class requirement, so if you know some students get them to link to your page.

Well we all know that Google needs Viagra, like they need webmasters. Cause Google has attitude and thinks big, long and hard in and about all aspects of life in the SE life.

Anyone in college can get their page on an edu domain and link out. I don't think google can be fooled that easily;. In my opinion .edu links are looked at slightly higher if higher at all.

.edu links are losing their luster due to spam

.gov and .mil have a lot of trust as well as juice

Yeh I believe that .gov has more trust than .edu because it's a little harder to get because you don't have your buddy at the colleges helping you out. LOL

I think both still work well, but I agree that .govs probably have more juice in them

I have had a couple of links from .edu domains and I personally think that they do have any higher weight than other top level domain. However TRUSTED, QUALITY, education related sites do have a lot of weight, IE wikipedia. Although wikipedia uses no-follow so you aren't getting PR, merely trust and traffic. If there is another site like wikipedia (trusted, quality, education related) that doesn't use no-follow (which I'm sure exists) then that is a quality link.

Essentially what I am trying to say is " Education related links carry weight, top level domains do not".

Yes trust and authority I believe is everything...Like if you have an .edu or .gov who sells links on their site I think that they wont carry as much weight as one that does not sell links
