I thought that incoming links can't have a negative affect on your site? Incoming links can have a positive affect or simply have no affect (if they're poor quality). Otherwise any webmaster could organize to have 10,000 poor quality links point to a competitors site to have it banned.
If you start a new site and get a load of low quality links the site will struggle to ever rank, even if you get high quality links at a later date.
This sort of link building is a lot easier in the webmaster blog niche - but still impressive nonetheless - a well implemented strategy.
Really cool. I subscribed to your feed. Now all I need is a cool tool like your link tracker and some friends jk lol

Is this statement true? if those low quality websites link to you by themself, how can you control the backlink quality?
Too bad the actual article isn't an in-depth piece discussing how to actually do what it says. Much more fluff than anything.
Of course, yes. What is more important is you don't need so many links at all. Just having a couple of 1000 of them will suffice depending on your niche. My strategy is simple: I would rather work on traffic building than link building. This also takes care of link building.
the thing is you can have a lot of links, but generally they could be site wide links and do nothing for your rankings.
Very good point. On most link searches at Yahoo, you only have to limit a few domains to see the true number of links. Usually they're pretty low. Personally, I feel links from unique domains is the important factor. But that's just IMHO.
Yes links from unique websites are very important. Generally you'll establish better rankings you can have 20k links, or you could only have 100 unique links and they will work better, why? Because the unique links give credit unlike the site wide links. Any one can get a site wide link and have a ton of links, but no rankings. Lexi Seek thats why in the other post you seen http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=425968 the rankings we have its because all our links were naturual therefore we had high rankings. Which currently of now there gone because 301 redirect, but there coming back up , but yes don't get confused on that just cause you have a bunch of links don't mean your going to have good traffic, get unique links that will boost your ranking, but in this forum topic he probably does have a lot of unique links if he hit the front page of Digg, but generally you don't get a bunch of high quality links from hittng the front page of digg, just depends. Links are links though
