I was looking for a way to open a US bank account (Non-US resident).

I was glad to find out about E*Trade Brokerage Account.

But after some research and a call to their support i was disappointed to find out that they are no longer provide ATM / Visa Debit Card (and checks) for non-US residents.

Do you know of another solution (not E*Trade) to open a US bank account for non-US resident and be able to withdraw money using an ATM / Debit card ?

Do you know a solution of a card that i'll be able withdraw money from an E*Trade Brokerage account if i'll open it ?

    Thanks,
    E-A.

    I'm already Paypal verified.

I know that with an E*Trade Brokerage account i'll be able to get money from Paypal and wire transfer to any bank account..

But i'm looking for a solution to withdraw money from my E*Trade account (or other US bank account) with ATMs.

I heard E-trade is no longer available for PayPal because it´s not it´s purpose: it´s a brokerage account so you have to trade. This is from a friends experience.

Don't mind but you all are wrong including the customer care support agent. I got my e-trade account just last month on 23rd July, & just 2 weeks back I transferred my fund from Indian Verified PP to it within 3 days. The fund was mear $46.95 & still I could see an option to request for a debit card in my e-trade a/c which was previously disabled when there was zero balace. I requested a debit card just few days back & also got this kind of message in my e-trade a/c mail box. (see the SS) This proves that,

    *e-trade still supports PayPal,
*you can get visa debit card with any balance on your e-trade but not with zero balance,

This is just shows that they have received your request. It doesn't say that it will be approved.

He clearly told me that they are no longer issuing debit cards and checks to non-us residents.

Well, OK I will post here the scanned copy of my Debit Card with name ambosed when finally I will get it............Oh man,why don't you notice that at the time of zero balance there was no option for Debit Card request & after depositing some bucks it appeared, what does this mean ? Anyway before I had opened my e-trade a/c one of my friends had got his debit card within 7 days via Fedex (with regular mail it takes about 25 days) at that time the agent on call had told him that it would cost him $20 to get a card via Fedex but so far in the last two months his a/c hasn't been charged with a single cent. This clearly indicates that there are many differences between the real thing & what customer care agent tells you on call. And what is wrong in taking a chance, it will cost you less then $5 to get your e-trade a/c & only 10 days duration. If you want, please read all my posts here in the following thread, otherwise just follow the "jakomo"s advice spend $1200 & visit USA to get your a/c !!!!!!!!!!!

Read all my posts at the above mentioned link, this is the only way to get your US bank a/c if you are non-US & most important thing is the cheapest way. Best of Luck.

mafostedu, do you have any idea if the debit card offered by e-trade can be used for online shopping? i.e., does it have a CVV/CVV2 and is an amex/visa/master card?

You might try calling eTrade again. Unfortunately with larger companies, sometimes their employees are not familiar with the rules and regulations and you might get one employee who can get you an account. Getting a United States Bank Account might help a little as well.

    I had a similar experience...

I called up ETrade USA, they said they stopped issuing accounts and ATM/debit cards to Non-USA citizens... I again called up Hongkong branch, they say i can open an account, but no debit cards...

    Is there an alternative?

Thats the same response I got - that they no longer issue ATM/ debit cards, does anyone know of any companies that would offer an alternative to non US citizens?

    YES,
First of all As non US resident you can open a Brokerage account with Etrade But not Checking or Saving Accounts these last 2 types are not allowed for non residents with ETRADE ..

E*trade still gives out Brokerage accounts for non residents and they still have international Agents in middle east and UK etc , I think you asked them about Regular Accounts .

Any way you can open U.S Bank account ( Checking account ) For non residents . and also verify your PayPal accounts as well if required .

Personally I Recommend and trust the VMI card and accent card ebanks . They offer Debit cards attached with U.S Bank account For Non USA Residents + ATM card to withdraw your money from any international ATM machine . Accent card also has Internet Visa card attached as extra promotion .

check out with the site http://www.dollarat.com in order to have more details about the above mentioned ebanks and how to obtain/buy these accounts from authorized reseller only , also there is section about the etrade accounts .. ( visit debit Card Page in the site )
