I have a gut feeling about .edu links and I believe that Google will give more weight and authority to .edu sites and sites that have .edu links since they are the oldest sites around on the net and most are well respected sites. What do you think about gaining .edu backlinks?
I sure hope so because I have bought several and when you look at backlink strength, you don't even reallt see them!! I am starting to think that the .edu days are over!! Maybe I'm wrong!
I wish the moderators would combine the 10,000 threads that all ask this same question. Then they should tell them all that "no, it doesn't make a difference - .edu, .com, .net have nothing to do with anything. It's the authority of the site that matters." Then should set up a filter that doesn't allow anyone to ever ask that question again.
I imagine that they do have several threads in here pertaining to that but the thing is that status is changed and different factors come in to play from Update to Update so it is nice to stay fresh with everyones experiences! I think that is why DP made the Google Q3 thread a sticky and is now umtenn posts so they can see everyones experiences play by play!! It is an up hill battle for PR, position, and rank! Things change!!
Oh so sorry for asking a question boss! I do believe authority does have a lot to play in the link value as well...like the guys spamming .edu forums and being at the top of Google in three days. But once again I do apologize for asking a question SIR!!
More weight for any of tld, would cause encourage for spammers so it would be dead end for domains and websites with that domains. No more links weight for any kind of domains can be proven.
I agree that the idea of .edu having authority is a myth but don't regional TLDs like .co.uk and .fr have an effect on Google's regional searches. I.E. it gives more weight to .co.uk if you are searching form the UK etc. Or is it just thje physical location of the servers?
