Tricks? Look in the Bottom of the category page, if you see an editor go to his page, then click on his Home Page/ Website. now if he own a website do a Whois on that website then take his phone, once you have his phone tell your wife/girl friend to call him and ask him about the status of your submission. that geek will be so happy to hear a girl voice on the phone (what, WOW, a real girl is calling me!?) that he will accept your site and usually ask you if you have more to submit (so he can show the girl how usefull and good he is) thats how you get into dmoz
Prayer often helps, as god only knows how most of those sites made it in Though honestly, the best method of getting in would be to have an original site (no copy/pasted content) and to have no dead, misleading, or missing links. Submitting to smaller, non-saturated categories also may help, as getting into the porn, travel, real estate categories often proves impossible due to conflicts of interest and over saturation. Aside from that there are several unproven tricks to get in, and calling the editor is as just as good as the next.
That's pretty sneaky . If you're an editor of a particular area in the directory do you still have access to others?
No, if you have been given privileges for editing in certain categories, you cannot access any others. Your priveledges can be extended to other categories and you can be granted editall or meta editor status, which means you can edit anywhere. editalls usually have about 20,000 + edits and even that is no guarantee. So achieving being an editor in itself does not give you and blanket access, it can give you access to the category that you want your site listed in though, if that is what you applied for and were accepted for. A general comment, whatever these guys on here say, there aint no tricks or shortcuts. To have a chance of getting in Have a good site, find the correct categories (topical site which has a base can be listed in regional too), submit, get on with your life. Its not the end of the world if it is not listed and you can do nothing to speed up a listing or find out if it is rejected. (Some editors want to see that changed, but they aint got there yet).
Some trick try to apply for editor then when they ask you to fill the exaple site, fill you site then when they reject you they will explain reason why they reject your site. Improve your site follow they suggest then submit again.
Really don't know where these mad ideas come from. If you apply to be an editor, they will not comment that directly on the sites you offer. We repeat have a site with unique content, one that will enhance the directory, submit to the right cat, get on with your life. Stop. You might offer to a cat that gets looked at quickly, I have listed sites within hours of submission, but the cat might not get that. I have listed sites that have been waiting 3 years. The site might be rejected. I personally have rejected a very small percentage of the vast number I have listed. We have limited editors, specially experienced ones, who have limited time. What a fantastic directory has been created bearing those facts in mind.
Like in the real world advancement in DMOZ isn't a matter of hard work but people you know or in this case kissing a** of metas. Common editor can wait for weeks just to get rejection notice for category which has grand total of two website listed. With such hard work done by metas it is not surprising that most new editors lose interest in DMOZ very quickly.
I gave up submitting sites to dmoz never got listed and to free directories I'll give up as well, just losing time.
