Im looking to buy a new laptop and in looking Im seeing alot of acer brand ones that are way cheaper than the regular brands for the same features, Has anyone bought an acer and whats your experience with it?

When I buy a laptops I really just focus on whats inside and not the company that makes the product.

I have an Acer and my friend does too. We've both suffered from battery problems. After only a year or two my battery lost the ability to hold charge, so now I run my laptop from the mains only. My friend's battery had exactly the same problem. I've got a Travelmate and he has an Aspire. Might be a consideration for you.

I got Acer travelmate for 2 years. Everything is fine, never had any problems at all. Battery holds charge more or less 60 - 80 min. depends.

Sony, Dell or Toshiba would be better, but also take the cost in cosideration.

You should always take the company into consideration since certain companies make better products even if the two have the same specs.

If the only issues been the battery and everything else has run great thats not a big deal.

I got one a couple weeks ago and it was dirt cheap for what I got. Only drawback is my battery life but whats wrong with having 2 batteries?

I also have an emachines that is an excellent desktop and they said they were junk back in the day.

I got a Dell XPS M1710 fully loaded and it is amazing..battery lasts 60-120 mins

My teacher has an acer laptop and seems to need it to be plugged in constantly. Though i dont hear any complaints from him..

But if you get a nice acer then a different battery not made by them would work out great for you.

Just buy a new battery after a year or two that is great for a battery so if that is the only problem than that sounds like a pretty good laptop.

On the other hand I have no idea how much the batteries for you laptop cost so maybe I am wrong.

One thing i found out about is Vista draws substantially more power. A few people have reported installing a pre-vista OS and getting much better battery life.

Acer ;) I wouldn't say it's a good laptop compared to other brands out there (yes, brand does matter to some extent). Might want to read reviews, that battery problem sounds common...

I would recommend DELL or SONY as they are more reliable.

Asus, IBM and Toshiba are recommended by me.

I am on my Asus 17" Core 2 Duo right now. It rocks..Except for Vista...Going to reformat and put Win XP Pro on instead soon.

    I have an Aspire 7100 - no problems....well if you don't count windoh's! :p

I think they are decent considering the price but i heard about a guy having major issues...not sure the model #. Anyway Acer was no help whatsoever. Hearing his issues would have been enough for me no to buy one had it not been after the fact!

Like 8 said, check reviews and so on.
