They want to rank high on search engines..

Ah, looks like your question has already been answered. Yes, it's the same as most of us...they want to achieve better ranking for specific phrases, which is why the SEO companies are doing the work for them. Like I said, I get submissions like these all the time for Alive Directory, but this is the very first for a bid directory, which is something I am pleased to see developing.

Nobody does PR anymore. Its a dirty word these days. Notice how all the body lanuage has changed. It should tell you all you need to know. But what I would like to know is if the SEO companies do command business from this calibre of client and if they know what they are doing, why are they paying so much? I assume that this is an annual charge. Does a link from Alive get you closer to #1 than a run of the mill PR0 page, for example? Or is it a question of credibility? Do they believe that Alive has a long term value that serves their long term interests? What is it besides all the huffing and puffing we see that gives you the edge in these things?

Good directories like alive and elegant definitely attract the corporate web world.
its nice to see big corporates buying listings in quality directories.

While browsing MingleOn Web Directory I found that most of the sites mentioned in this thread have also been submitted/listed in
    MingleOn.

Does nobody see the MFA sites in Alive? These are what got me started. Or has the directory master removed them and cleaned up his act? We all know the corporate world sucks but are they really that dumb? ;)

Well, they have the PR 7 because they thought differently then you did.

Do you really think their pagerank went instantly from 0 to 7? No.

It's not enough to achieve a certain PR in a single update, the hard work comes when its to maintain it.

And besides, what's for Nick.com 1000$ per month? It's nothing for them. So this expense to pay 1000$ per month (or more) to the SEO specialists doesn't affect them at all, and guarantees a steady ranking.

Not sure if I understood you correctly but the point I would like to make is that a genuine PR7 site does not have to work hard to maintain it. I would have thought that professional SEO's (handling corporate accounts) understand the difference. Obviously I am wrong.

The question I was asking concerned all the MFA sites I found in Alive when I first looked. Are these uninteresting finds by comparison? It didnt take me long to convince myself that the site was a sham and I assume Aviva is much the same. I havent bothered to go back to any of them and its the reason I have started questioning the validity of all these Strongest List threads.
