Is anyone concerned about the sustainability of bidding directories? I have'nt jumped on the bandwagon yet. Because such a large investment is required up front, I have a couple concerns: 1. The directory owner might stop promoting the directory, for any number of reasons. 2. Google might frown on the practice at some point in the future.
I my opinion if a directory is of quality it does not matter so much whether it is a bidding directory or a regular directory. With that being said, the high cost of placement on some bidding directories may raise google eyebrows.
Google has already stated its disdain for paid links. They have also stated that directory fees should be constitute a review fee. Bidding directories seem to be pushing both to the limit.
Guys, you don't have to be on the homepage of the most sought after bidding directories There are many options, and bid directories are just like other directories most are properly edited some are promoted an some are not You really need to assess before you submit
google should have no problem with bid dirs. if people quit selling $1 links for crap sites people wouldnt actually mind bid dirs. the bid is done for advertisement so why would G care? i will never stop promoting mine so customers neednt worry
Well, rules of the game are set in Google's office so we cannot do much about it other than obeying them head down. But in my opinion the point you want to make about bidding directories is void because submitter bid high 'not' for getting 'more' link juice (which may Google not like some point in future) but for getting head up on the list to get 'more' attention (+clicks). In this perspective future of bidding directories seems 'more' sound than general directories. But as i said above ..
I think that is a very important point. The standard directory can avoid the "paid" stigma by charging a "review fee". The bidding directories appear, plain and simple, to be offering "paid" links. This could become a problem for bidding directories if Google follows through on their apparent war on paid links.
Just checked out your directory... looks great man. 6 year old domain is a bonus. Maybe someday i'll get there
Mong, you are probably right. A lot will depend on how Google interprets the rationale behind bidding for a link — for PR or for traffic?
my $20 min bid is my fee, any further bids count as advertisements, so im safe! hotsauce, there is 4 very nice bid dirs in my sig, but i only own the 1st
Yep, penalty on Text Link Ads and John Chow shows the hidden face of web monster. but there is also a lesson to learn from this image. you know directory owners what i mean? Directories need to have interconnected traffic + brand repute to deliver the worth of price paid by site owners. Realty is 'traffic' not Google rank & you must know how to get traffic without Google and with Google.
Not sure what the future would be I do have about 11 bidding directories. Like to know what is going to happen. waiting for google PR update (which now looks like may never happen) When they do, we will get the the direction.
It seems google almost favors directories in their SE and pageranks. I have two directories I made after the last PR update and one is predicted PR5 and has over 1,000 pages in Google, and one is PR4 on iwebtools after only one update. It seems if they dislike paid directories and bid directories, they wouldn't give them such high PR. Changes may happen if they update the algorithm, but based on how long it has taken for the PR update, who knows?? Just don't put all your eggs in one basket, or however that saying goes?!?
Ultimately, it really depends on how Google sees and interprets what bidding directories are doing. But for the sake of sharing opinions , I think bidding directories would do ok at least for a while. Whatever Google might be thinking, it won't be implemented too soon. They should be too busy with other things. It's too much to change or update its algorithm for a small number of sites.
well i have only 1 bidding dirctory, and hope everything goes well, hmm i know many ppl have 5 or 6 bidding directory. lets see how google take it....
Bidding directories are mainly for traffic, we don't talk about PR, so i guess google won't have much problems! We charge for the review fees, and i have refunded more money than i have earned on my bidding web directory! crap link or un-friendly links, $1 or $50! they just get refunded!! IMHO bidding directories have a great future! cheers!
