A new AP-Ipsos poll finds that liberals read more books than conservatives. Some highlights from the poll: – 34 percent of conservatives have not read a book within the past year, compared with 22 percent of liberals and moderates. – Among those who had read at least one book, conservatives “typically read eight†books in the past year. Liberals read nine, moderates five. – “By slightly wider margins, Democrats tended to read more books than Republicans and independents. There were no differences by political party in the percentage of those who said they had not read at least one book.â€
While I'd love to yell "Yeah" for my team, for the left-leaning portion of my psyche, this means nothing. It isn't how many books we read, but how much active thought we put into our personal world, and into the world beyond our own skin, that matters.
Uh, thanks. I believe you made this point elsewhere: -But I still don't know what this has to do with the subject of the thread.
The upside down Bush book is legendary but unfortunately fake. A bit like the BS "war on terror." The irony is that Bush is so stupid that if it were to be true it would not surprise anyone.
I am not a conservative, but a poll is a lot different than a study and hardly definitive. Furthermore, I didn't see anything about the quality of books read. Does reading four Harry Potter books make you smarter than reading one history book? Also, did they do a poll to determine which political party would be more likely to lie about the number of books they read to make themselves look better? What about asking the number of new books read within the last year (I know I reread an old favorite at least once a year)? Hardly a ringing endorsement for us being smarter.
Conservatives are too busy working multiple jobs so liberals can sit home and watch TV, play video games, hone their gangsta skills and read "I have Two Daddies and a Gerbil" and "Bert and Ernie Go the Circus". Conservatives just read books with less pictures and more than 12 pages thats all.
I cannot figure out how this conclusion was drawn from the poll results. I think I pointed it out in an other thread that articles all seem to have fabricated various stories around the limited poll results. No where in the poll result distinguishes liberal or conservative readers. The only place where 34% and 22% shows up in this very tiny poll is in this: Again, verify the source.
This is where you should be pointed at the poll, itself that TP links to: http://www.ipsos-na.com/news/client/act_dsp_pdf.cfm?name=mr070821-4topline.pdf&id=3613 Unless I'm missing something as well, the previous poster is right. Those numbers only appear here: Unless "moderate" is the new liberal. I'm not sure how this conclusion gets reached either. Unless someone can explain that to me, this is another case of think progress lying to its readers.
Wow libs are so brilliant! They must get all thier facts from Comedy shows. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=447836
Liberals would have to work two jobs too, If they could only get minimum wage jobs. Working more than one job is seen as an achievement, I don't know why, I see it as a failure. I don't think it's a case of "liberals are smarter" though, It's more a case of "smart people are liberals". if someone only posses the intelligence to thump their chest, Wave a flag and speak loudly, Then that is all they are going to do (as is demonstrated by the majority of the nationalist, right wing empty drums on this forum).
The most dangerous thing in the world is an idiot with a degree. My IQ is in the top 12% of people, so I'm no dummy, nor am I the most brilliant of people. Liberals tend to be fairly sharp people but they like to sit at the top of the heap and let the masses fight for crumbs. At least I see em that way. In years past I always saw the true intellectuals as conservative. Liberals were just great marketers able to divide and conquer.
All the book reading in the world still makes Liberals stupid. Doctor Spock? Libertarians have a brain, D
Interesting that they didn't consider the page count of the books or how many pictures they had. I wonder if that extra book or two had "Harry Potter" somewhere in the title. Also, liberals are more likely to consider themselves moderate than conservatives. You can look at the trend of the number of liberals, conservatives and moderates in the country and see that the number of liberals is dropping faster than conservatives and the number of moderates is going up. Liberals are just abandoning ship and taking on a nicer sounding name.
