After you read an SEO book, return to this forum for further questions and clarification. Good luck

I can heartily recommend the SEOBook. It's a fantastic, very comprehensive, easy to understand introduction to some basic and more advanced SEO techniques.

SEOMOZ offers a site of three premium articles - I think Link-building, Search Engine Friendly Website and Keyword Research Guy. You can download them individually - or you could purchase a months membership and get them for cheaper.

Regardless, they have a free Beginner's Guide to SEO which is great if cost is a problem.

    http://www.seomoz.org/articles

All three things have helped me develop my admittedly fairly narrow skills.

I don't recommend it at all. Not only is it inaccurate and misleading, but it's also full of false information as well (such as .edu links having more value than non-edu links - which is false since search engines treat .edu TLDs the same as others).

I strongly suggest that if you want to learn about SEO, read the Search Engine Optimization FAQ over at the SEO board on the forums at www.sitepoint.com/forums/ (I also suggest you read the SEO Guide at websitepublisher.net/seo-guide as well).

Yes, I have a thread dedicated to SEO (in my signature), but that's geared towards Web developers, not marketers. You might want to read that too if you build your own sites.

I hadn't opened up SEO Book in a while. I checked it the other day and was pleasantly surpised to see the "History of the internet" chapter. I can't describe just how pissed off I am thinking I spent money on the history of the internet.

This is one way of doing it.

Another way of doing it is spending all of your time drastically improving your site so that it is 10 times more usefull that that of your competition.

In reality, a combination of the two is the best way to go.

Just remember that half the info out there is complete junk. We begin filming our videos tomorrow for our big SEO product. It won't be ready until early September, however.

dont rely on any such kinda books.. the changes in SEO happen every day so the book u read may become outdated. Surf thru forums n articles , blogs online every day instead by which u can keep yourself updated frequently. I wud say DP is the best place on earth to learn n explore.. Good luck

The tricks change quickly because people are always chasing after the next trick once the ones they "learned" get FUBAR'd by the search engines.

The fundamentals (which everyone and their mothers should be sticking to) however, are timeless.

This SEO Book has been mentioned quite a few times on these forums.

I was even thinking of buying it.

Tell me, is there anything in the book that I wouldn't be able to find on a forum like Digital Point?

Aaron's book does'nt really involve any tricks. It's pretty conservative white hat stuff.

There is a lot of good advice on DP and a ton of bad advice. If you are able to successfully determine which is which, you won't need the book.

SEO book is my recommendation as well. I have recently talked about the key benefits of SEO book in my blog.

To answer your question, not all the information in the SEO book can be found in the forums. Having the SEO Book also helps as you do not need to filter any information in the forums as well.. All the information is consolidated in a single source.

I would also like to state that SEO Book does not only contain SEO information. It has a great deal of advise on how to create successful business / websites as well :)
