Yes we aussie's are a sad state of affairs, not only do we sound hilarious to other foreigner's we have a dialog that is even harder to understand...

But at least we know how to throw a shrimp on the barbie, yes we are grouse...

Well. we rarely say grouse. But words like "Yakka" and "Youse" are common words bandied about. Seriosuly, I dunno what I'd do without "Youse". We have a lot of weird sayings....."Dead Horse" translates into Tomato Sauce - my dad alwys says "You wnat some Dead Horse on your potato?"

Me, as a computer nerd, never say things like that. And our sense of humor doesn't seem to be appreciated anywhere else in the world :(

That must be Perth slang, you don't get that in Sydney :p

fair dinkum (apparently considered offensive which I found humorous)

I find the Aussie accent extremely sexy followed by the British accent.

 I am so Australian...born here and been here all my life! As for grouse you need to look for the real true blue Australian and you will hear it more often (usually with those who work up north) and in particular a msn buddy I have uses it alot.:p

:) This was said in fun , but we do do seafood on the barbie at least my family does..:p

We Brits aren't bad on slang. We've got the old tradition of rhyming slang which I suppose a lot of you have heard of where you say things that rhyme for example:

    Apples and Pears - Stairs
    Trouble and Strife - wife
    China plate - mate.

These are often shortened: 'china plate' for example is 'china' so you get expressions like "Are you alright me old china?"

Some are quite old-fashioned, I haven't heard anyone say 'apples and pears' for a long time for example. But it does keep being invented. Oh, got to go, the dog's* ringing.

    *Dog 'n' bone - phone.

    That's what I heard.

I guess wearing roots clothing in Aussie wouldn't be such a smart idea :p

Why do Americans think the Aussie accent is English? To someone from England, the Aussie accent sounds very loud and bruttish.

I worked from some Aussies and for the first year I could not understand them. After working with them for 3 years, I found myself talking like them and then my husband could not understand me.
