I saw Superbad last weekend, and a ride in a police car does indeed appear to be a good time.

Old news here too. I have seen those signs all over the place.

Almost all towns or cities have a police section in the paper where they list crimes including shoplifting.

I take this is USA. So they openly name all criminals? I am not sure if I like that. I hope they at least dont name them before they are convicted.

they do, your name goes in the paper as soon as you are arrested, depending if there is other stuff to report on

maybe really small cities, but in most cities shoplifting would not make the paper

Thats crazy. What if you are innocent of the crime??? A guy that is at the wrong place at the wrong time are risking to get his reputation destroyed.

Does that sign really scare the shoplifters away or do they attract the shoplifters. As you know some shoplifters might really want to prove that the sign is wrong. And kids might try it too.

Don't think so deep into it, its to warn teenagers mostly. Think about it, if you really wanted to steal something it would not be that hard. Plus if you do steal the shop employees are not allowed to touch you or you can sue them. :)
