    In my opnion they should have perfected XP and not thought about creating another OS until that time,

    Vista = new age WinME

    Its not even worth the cd its written on!

    The next Windows OS will be Vienna, not Vista 2.
    You can start grabbing domains even though it's a bit late now.

    Vista = Windows ME 2

    Vista 2 = Windows ME 3

    I think they probably going to have Windows XP 2 instead

    Vista2 might be released with some improvements to vista.Or a special low profile or a high profile version of vista for some countries might be released like XP starter Edition for India.

    Except Vista has actually added things to the core of the OS which is actually useful and I doubt these could have ever shown up in XP.

    I'll just name one very useful feature i/o priority which means no longer should an active virus scanner be eating a the hard drive alive even when it's cpu priority is very low.

    The only Windows OS on the horizon now is Windows Server. Last one was Windows Server 2003.

    The version of Windows is on the pipeline its codenamed "Windows 7" (formerly codenamed Blackcomb, then Vienna) It will ship in 2009 or 2010 according to Microsoft. Just Google Search Windows 7 and you will get all the info...

    I got my new computer yesterday with windows vista installed... and I hate it. Win XP was much cleaner and easier to handle.

    read this, confirmation came from Microsoft during their sales conference

    Windows 7 will be for 2010. It should bring the new stuff VISTA was supposed to deliver.

    Um OK. Unfortunately my wife's Vista box pretty much grinds to a complete halt due to the HD activity when the virus scan is running...

    Vista is such a pain in the ass to use. Stuff you can do on XP or Server with 1 or 2 clicks takes 3 or 4 or more. Totally unintuitive, not that Windows was the intuitive to start with.

    Server 2008 is in Beta, I've got a copy but haven't installed it yet... Server '03 is far superior to even XP, XP I used to reset 2 or 3 times a day, Server '03 I run my machine for weeks without rebooting.

    you can always schedule the virus scanning (if you do it weekly) to run when the system is idle (maybe midnight or when you are at work) so you just don't bother getting slow performance while it's running ;)

    True enough. When I set the scanner up for her, I scheduled it for 3am, unfortunately it's still going at 6:30 when I get home from work.. lol And for some other stupid reason, unlike the XP and server boxes here, it will run the full scan for EVERY user when they log in, it doesn't just scan the machine once a day for all users, it will scan on every user log in.. Never bothered looking into that yet, but it doesn't behave like that on XP or '03. Stupid thing.
