What are the factors for getting banned on DP? When browsing through threads I see many 1000+ posts users get banned while in some instances have been sharing many great topics with the rest of the community. Can you get AUTO banned just by receiveing a few negative reputations because you have hit on someones nerve? Or few fellas have gathered up to generate the required amount of negatives for a ban?
1)- You get banned when you get 10 infraction points by MODS. 2)- Mods could ban you for scamming and other reason (Permanent or temporary) 3)- Negative Rep does not lead to a ban. Rules are rules, no matters if you have 10 posts or 10,000 posts
If you receive 10 or more infraction points you get banned until your infractions expire and you reach below 10 infraction points. Infraction may be given for different reasons like Bumping, harassing people, duplicate accounts etc. Read the FAQ for more details.
you can check it in userCP and i guess it will show up only if you recvd any. You can always open some shitty thread asking for infraction and it will be soon closed and you will be awarded some infraction points or make a thread and keep bumping it and you will get infraction points. Its easy
You can check how many infraction you have either by viewing your OWN profile or usercp. You won't see any infractions section if you haven't received one yet.
A forum can easily go downhill without rules. Having rules like this helps us all. And as it's from the Mods only, sounds a fair way.
Thanks for the clarification to everyone who posted. I am not concerned about getting a ban myself, just interested in the process.
you can get banned without any infractions too, just post a child porn pic and see how long you last here
Well im sure you would get an infraction for like 200 points or something like that. But you would also be reported to the FBI so I wouldn't really worry about being banned on DP at that point.
I've got a handfull of infractions. I didn't realize they expired... makes me feel a little bit better. They weren't because I was purposely trying to do anything, ignorance is no excuse though.
A month or so ago a long-time member was banned for what appeared to be one off-color response to another long(er)-time member.. Seemed to me to be a bit unfair... but they let him back in after a few weeks so i guess it's cool.. I guess pissing-off a long-time upstanding member is another way to get banned..
Speaking of... I've just ran into a member who greeted at least 100 people in his posts during the recent hours on various threads. Increasing post count for the purpose of scamming? http://forums.digitalpoint.com/search.php?searchid=6178438
Thread gone! you did a good job by posting it here. What that guy was doing is clear cut spamming and he got what he deserved Lesson for others
Yes,. w3bmaster has over 3K posts, and still gets banned regularly. You should be careful where you post threads though, the infraction times for that simple mistake are brutal.
That's nothing!! AnthonyCea has over 10,000 posts and doesn't even last three days and he's banned again!!!
