Hello friends, From a lot of time, I have been working on my web directory site http://www.sharengain.com . I worked on it a lot and was able to get over 5000 yahoo backlinks without spending any money. I have worked a lot on it, got PR3 on first update Even installed a deep link mod myself but i am not getting any sales. Please give some advice on what improvements to make .Please dont suggest to keep a custom theme, as i cannot afford to spend that much right now. I will re-invest the money i get from submissions to the same directory to make it more stronger.. and another thing to add i also have a PHPLD3.2.0 latest paid version Regards Abhishek
You directory has zero content. Think about adding descriptions and listings to the categories - at least all of the top categories. People like to see that their site is being added to an existing database of quality sites. $5.95 with 5 deep links is a very good price, maybe pay someone to create a 468x60 banner to let visitors know just how great your directory is. You might even have the lowest price 5 deep link submission service on the net! You should shout about this.
Good directory. Everything is fine. Have a blog too and write regularly on it some kind of content which attracts webmasters, so that they stick to your site and finally submit links
Yeah All the links are permanent.. I have built it myself... also have ONE EDU LINK ZERO content because i did not get any submissions... I will add descriptions NOW... Yeah... I have quoted the best price 5.95 & i think it is worth for people to buy links... & moreover I will re-invest the money to the same site for buying quality links so in return they get the money invested for themselves... What kind of banner should I get created ??? can u give any example ??? if u have anyone in mind ?? & a rough budget ??? & how far it can help me getting some income ??? I have spent a lot of time to build these links & btw.... many links are QUALITY links as a webmaster u people might be knowing...
You definitely need a custom theme, whether you like it or not submitters will judge your directory based on whether your theme is a customised one or a freebie. I didn't get much sales for my PR4 directory until I started to invest in a custom theme. Other than that, your directory seems ok but you might want to add extra features such as news feeds and articles to the directory.
Have a big sale, offer up some 2 for 1 deals on regular and featured links, that way you will get some money to do promotion. Without any promotion you will be pretty much stagnant.
i think this post is a good example of the way to go .. the directory is very nice imo and all you may need is some promotion .. have you though of special promos for DP members at the solicitations&announcements forum? (3x2 offers or something like that) .. that should give you some submissions and get money to reinvest .. im submitting a couple of sites myself to your directory .. good luck!
I dont have a budget to buy a custom theme now...but will surely do it in near future & BTW... how much roughly a custom theme costs ??? & how does it improve SEO... i think free/custom both r same... as i did not see any difference in these... & RSS FEEDS ENABLED Yeah ur point is very much RIGHT I need to do promotion & give offers to attract customers... I am thinking about the same & will come up with attractive offers in some days... & BTW.. if u have any idea then please PM me... 3x2 offers & BTW... Submitted a featured too as i find your directory prospectively attractive. I like the particular template you are using allthough its a free one. I think if you want more sales on dp you will need a custom template, i think this is mainly the directory buffs that need to have a certain something fullfilled before they will submit to a directory. While everyone else is not so bothered. dp users will scrutinise every aspect of your directory while the average internet user that stumbled in off google won't put it under the microscope so much. I bought a nice theme for my new music directory portal and it only cost $60 (+customizations, another $40 or so), I feel pretty lucky to have gotten it for that low of a price and you won't find them that low very often. But for $100-$200 if you keep an eye out for a deal you should do ok.
I was just checking your music directory out and it doesn't seem to display right in my firefox, what i assume is the left bar (with latest blog posts) runs down the center of the page with all the other content following below it.

Yeah I know DP users see every aspect in a dir... & infact that is really good as they take out the defects in my work & i get a chance to rectify it & make it more good... I will buy some High Quality links as of now.... as & when i m ready to buy template i will buy it... a custom template... Nice Template friend.... I will also search for a fresh hardworking designer to get a good deal for my template when i buy... Okie... I will think about it... & will get done some banners.. & as i saw they r attractive & catches the eye of a visitor so that one can get clear picture about services... Nice idea... Maybe if you added some webmaster tools, or a directory blog you could gain more incoming links faster.
Move away from general directories there are simply too many of them and most are a waste of time and money. Go for a niche directory in a subject you know about, and go hell for leather populating it with unique content. Don't get fooled into adding waste of time blogs, who goes to a directory to read a blog.
