I happened to read an article, and it said google will not rank well for domain expiring within one year. Anybody heard about it?

Its a old idea... Part of the sandbox thing where spammer would register a domain for a year then ditch it, but I've never had a problem with domains only registered for one year.

If you believe that your website is still going to be around after a year, it is a good idea to register for multiple years. If you are not sure, and it is just a trial idea, that is a different matter. But Google can draw the same conclusions too.

I doubt that, I've ranked well for domains only registered for a year. It's more that Google may trust a domain more automatically if it's registered for 10 years say.

I don't think it is true, there probably isn't a penalty for registering for one year but it would be interesting if there was a bonus for registering for multiple years but I am not sure there is a way for them to tell. If you look at who is I think it tells when the domain expires but you would not know if it was reg'ed for five years and is just expiring in 3 months, would you?

i doubt ...... it is not possible ...most of us register a new domain for 1 year only ..... once it is successful ...we may think about registering it for multiple years .

    :)

Google takes the website more seriously if it's registered for more than 1 year. This info is by GoDaddy.I have read this 3-4 years ago and I have no idea whats the benefit of this.

LOL Thats such a nonsense!!!! I know for a fact that many huge sites pay yearly. The domain host charges your credit card automatically on an anual basis. Why spending more now when you can split your payments? Oh yeah, otherwise i'll be banned :) It would be possible if Google was run by kids like the ones who make up this gossip.

I've seen no benefit even though I did register several of my domains for 5+ years, I've seen no benefit over the ones I registered for one year.

What a joke, of course Godaddy would say this rubbish because they are a domain registrar. I cant believe people fall for this.

This is from interview with Jon Glick, formerly of Yahoo's search team

    Fact or Fiction

"Registering a domain for several years is a good SEO tactic.

Fact. There is a minor benefit to domains with longer registrations. It shows that the site is planning on being around a while, and makes it more costly for spammers to buy disposable domains. Just like when the IRS determines who to audit, each “flag” is worth a certain amount, and if you score too highly, boom - you’re audited. A single year registration is just one flag."
