Hello, I am looking for opinions about this website and if they are creating duplicate content the way the site is set up. Please note: this is a piercing and tattoo site Painful Pleasures They have 3 tabs...one is retail, one is wholesale, and another is distributor. When you go to retail....and search for a product (for example): http://www.painfulpleasures.com/xcart/customer/product.php?productid=1620&cat=26&page=1 When you go to wholesale....and search for the same product (for example): http://www.painfulpleasures.com/xcart/wholesaler/product.php?productid=1620&cat=26&page=1 When you go to wholesale....and search for the same product (for example): http://www.painfulpleasures.com/xcart/distributor/product.php?productid=1620&cat=26&page=1 The product title, category names and URLS are almost exactly the same except for the folder they are in...ie customer, wholesale, distributor. What do you think? Is this a little too similar? Will it cause a red flag of duplicate content or am I off base? The reason I am asking is because I have a client that wants to set up a site with similar structure and I need reasons why this is ok or not ok to set up his site(s) this way. I would appreciate any opinions. Thanks, Dalmuti
Yes, its duplicate content. But Google has said that it does not penalize for that type of duplication, they simply pick one to index.
I see...thats interesting. Can I determine which one is indexed? By robots.txt or other means? Thanks for your reply. Dalmuti
You can do it with robots.txt The Google blog had some other suggestions as well: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2006/12/deftly-dealing-with-duplicate-content.html
If they are just search results pages it doesnt matter, as Google wont be conducting searches. But if they are static its duplicate. Im on a mobile so cant check fully.
Duplicate contents are everywhere in the internet usually articles in which the author has permitted others to reprint his articles without modifying nothing. But if you reprint an article and put it in your site with page rank and added more useful resources, your site will be on top of the search result beating the original content. www.sm-insurance.com
I do not agree that duplicating will help much. But I think it might bring a lot of trouble. Bottom line is that you can try and see how it will all work out. regards
Quite interesting....I think using a combination of robots.txt and NOFOLLOW might be how we do it. Other comments? Dalmuti
Got the question whats similar. I have given description to each brand name and those brand descriptions are shown on each product page depending to where there product belongs. So is this also duplicated content?
