Just a curious question, I thought of creating a directory for the person I liked but thought it would be weird, but if I promote it enough who cares right? good serps eh? For ex. www.orlandobloomdir.com, search google "orlando bloom" and you get the dir, all the fans would be puzzled huh? Just an interesting question. P.S. I don't like Orlando Bloom if thats what your thinking.
Can't see the point because 9 times out of 10 using someone elses name is going to bring you a raft of other problems later, and may even result in site closure, for legal reasons Definitely a NO NO
maybe-maybe not, it's not a company, for example I bet they have lots of forums for orlando bloom using his name but they are unofficial.
I wouldn't do this...I'd go for a name that's more professional. From a user's standpoint ~ fans of Orlando Bloom (or whoever it's named for) are likely to get there & find out that's it's not about him and leave. Those who aren't Orlando Bloom fans are likely to just think it's weird. A name like that isn't likely to give you much credibility. One thought on wacky directory names ~ I run a directory submission service, and many of my clients are companies & even large corporations. I supply them with a report with the domain names of the directories to which I submitted their site. But I cannot imagine telling the CEO of a financial corporation that I submitted his site to "orlandobloomdir.com" Even if it were the highest quality directory, he'd be unlikely to be impressed. See what I mean? Just my 2 cents worth ~ cheers ~ Denise
Shhh...don't tell anyone, but my webdesign company, Quanta Webdesign, is named after my cat. cheers~ Denise
I'm just saying if you were rich and you had not a lot to do on your time and good at making dir's. i would if i had a gf. preferably a famous one then i wouldn't get lawsuits unless we broke up.
I think people have certain rights to their own name, in some cases (and in some territories). Basically what you're suggesting would be profiting from someone else's fame, and I believe that some celebrities actually market themselves as companies and trademark their own names. So it's definitely an area to steer clear of, unless you actually do share a name with someone famous. However, the dead can't sue. Pick someone who has been dead long enough for those in charge of their estate also to be dead, and you should have no problems: Aristotle, or Napoleon, etc. Although you'd still have the problem of an off-topic name sounding silly, unless the name has some actual relevance to the niche of the directory.
This isn't a really bad idea, perhaps the name of a personality or a historical figure who died a few centuries ago, so that he can't sue you as he's dead
i dont think its a good idea .. maybe a fans pages directory so you could use different categories (like cinema, sports and so on):
There is always a fan base to market to. Not too sure why you can get sued unless you actually have a domain with the name of the famous person, eg orlandobloom.com Back in '96 I created a static page directory of almost all the Sherlock Holmes fan clubs, events around the world. Really wish I had kept that after leaving Uni.
I think it can work in some cases. (A directory after your Pet name, A regional directory after someone etc etc) But I don't see a big use of it. Better to avoid it and Create you own Brand. A decent name for a directory is enough. It doesn't need to be a famous name. You cracked me up ... lol I am literally rolling on the floor.
