How did they make the buzz

    I'm talking about those large sites on the internet that anyone on day 1 on the internet knows them

    sites like youtube/myspace/metacafe/bebo/facebook and the list goes on

    I never saw ads for them on the internet - how did they build a large user base like that ?

    I will be just good to copy their success IMO :D

    Be the first to do something or be the first to do something differently. They also usually have venture capital to start and can pay an actual team to develop something new, and hire a gorilla marketing firm to push word of mouth.

    How can marketing push a word of a mouth ? get paid to talk about it ? :D

    If you have a social networking site, just promote it within your friends, then they invite their friends and their friends invite their friends on the site an so on. This gets them huge traffic!
