May I ask why you need to disguise your accent?

Say Y'all and Huh all the time ;) (just kidding).

IT takes practice, best to be surrounded by people with "american accents" to pick it up. Also, which American Accent because there are quite a few :p

Watch a lot of american movies (HBO, starmovies and cinemax) and listen to the News on CNN. Find someone to talk to in english and practice talking. Then you will learn very slowly.

Exactly, some parts of the states the accent is harder for me to understand than someone from outside of the states. Yet I've lived her my entire life, there simply is not such a thing as a universal American Accent.

    Hello,

What you need to do is see a speech pathologist.

But one MAJOR thing i can tell you is how to say your t's and d's.

PLace the tip of your tongue on your teeth, rather than on your upper pallate (hard plate at the top of the mouth) when making your t's and d's.

I won't give you a website because, for god's sakes, just do it yourself by searching, "How to speak American?" on Google. However, I will give you some advice, and hopefully you won't ignore it and waste 2 minutes of my life. First, you need to talk to an American first to see how they sound like. The easiest way to do that is going to Youtube and watching the videos that are on there.

Most of them are by English people. Then, the only other thing I can tell you is to not use your Indian accent which would surely not sound American-like. Try to say the English words firm without adding anything in your accent to it. Also, it would be good for you to learn some American words aswell. Use them, and it'll make you look alot more American rather than using the simplist words.

    You missed one Sammi.
You would need to open your mouth at it's full :D

Just speak speak and speak. You will improve very quickly, continuously speaking. Keep on speaking and you will see.

Speaking like British is even more harder (atleast it is for me). I find US speaking style more comfortable (Listening + Speaking). Though I'm not very good speaking (My accent sucks )

1),Watching American movies, which you can easily buy from the local market.
2),Listen to the VOA news, sreach "VOA" on http://mp3.baidu.com,it is writen in Chinese, you can use it for obvious reasons, download VOA news as many as you want, you can store them in your mp3,and listen them whenever & wherever you want.
3),Talk to American, imitate his/her accent as long as you can,if you can find such a kind man.
4),Talk to yourself in english when you are alone.

Want to sound like an American? Learn Spanish :D

Seriously though - Like the dialects of many countries, America has its own unique geographical accents - A rural Texan rancher will sound quite different from a New England housewife, who will have a distinctly different way of speaking from a Detroit hip hop kid, who will sound drastically different from a saucy old New Yorker, who will likely sound very different from a good ol' Georgia boy.

If you want to sound like an American you might want to narrow it down a bit - not going to fool anybody sounding like... "Howdy pardner, weeeell I reckon I outta figure out * whater ya'll fixin' ta get ready an' do? * Ohmygodiforgottotellyouaboutmyneighbor! I was all like, "Hello!?" and then she was all like "What?!" * An' den I says ta dis tramp - 'ey - Watchewlookin' at eh? You... lookin' at me... eh? * Which was quite unfortunate as the young lady had few prospects and less manners. * Fo sho cuz - I mean dis trick was whack, off the hambizzle fo shizzle - noahmean cuz?

    ... shudder ...

Sounds like a kid I knew in high school :D

I don't know if this was mentioned earlier, but the best way would probably be to throw yourself among American speakers, if at all possible. More exposure means faster learning.
