I'm ordering a new PC! XP OR Vista?????

I'm ordering a new Dell Pc with these specs:

    2.4Ghz quad core processor
    2 Gb's of ram @ 800Mhz
    320 GB HD
    20" Ultra sharp widescreen monitor
    128 MB video card

My MAIN concern is that will Vista run with photoshop 7.0, will my external HD work, will my new $300 digital camera work, and will it function correctly with the PC that I mentioned above. The last thing in the world I would need since I'm on a limited budget would be to have to upgrade to photoshop CS2 or downgrade to XP if I ordered it with vista.

I won't be doing any gaming whatsoever with this pc... it will be used only for web design and advanced applications such as photoshop. However, sometimes I have photoshop open with 20+ new windows and a few other programs open at the same time designing these websites. The last thing I would need is for vista to keep freezing if my PC isn't large enough to handle the load. :)

XP ;). I have close to the same 4gb ram, 2x250s. Vista is nice looking, but XP still runs much better and less popups asking if everything is okay.

I actually dont see what anyones problems with vista are
    it starts up faster
    its quicker imo
    and its more secure
even if it does have some problems with UAC but they can be turned off

i enjoy using vista especially since i dont have to reinstall all my drivers 1 by 1

Very true on the startup et cetera. I have a dell laptop w/vista. I didnt know that there was an option for vista or xp. I would have ordered the laptop w/XP.

So go for XP on your PC

BTW - I have adobe on my dell laptop vista nd runs just fine.

Vista is faster if you have good hardware. I find it boots and shuts down very fast. I think bested doesn't like Vista because it stops him from hacking on Maplestory, lol.

Startup is irrelevant for some users, such as myself, who either leave their computer on all the time or hibernate/stand by instead of turning the computer off. I've owned my current computer for about 8 months and spent about 2 minutes total starting it up.

I'd go with XP. I just can't see any significant upgrade with Vista that justifies buying it. All the "improvements" with the GUI seem to be offset with Microsoft's increased attempts to control the way we use our computers. I'm sure Adobe programs are compatible with Vista, as they are a multi-billion $ company that needs to keep up with the various new OS's. What I'd be more concerned with is the third party software from the small companies. They will take a lot more time to make their software compatible. I happen to use a lot of programs that don't appear to support Vista (as evidenced by the messages in their support forums). If it ain't broke, don't fix it. As far as I'm concerned, XP ain't broke.

i went vista on my new laptop.. .like it.. but for business use all day every day.. i prefer my desktop with XP...

Vista takes more resources and constantly prompting for every little thing..

XP, vista looks nice, but its annoying because it does keep prompting constantly, also it uses more ram, and photoshop of all applications is very memory intensive, it likes to use as much memory as possible, the more you have free the faster it'll run. I'd stick to XP, but u do have 2GB ram and Quad Core, so might be different for you.

XP! There is no reason to pay extra for the POS that is Windows Vista, for multiple reasons, some of which have already been stated.

You can turn off that popup asking wheter you want to allow / block things. I turned off all the stupid safety features in Vista, and it runs smooth as silk. I'm an advanced PC user, so I know how to protect myself from viruses / spyware. I have 0 Virus protection / spyware protection, but I'm not an idiot, so I never get viruses / spyware.

Funny but it might come as a shocker to u : Any window on a Good Hardware will be fast :D . So there is really no comparison of speeds when it comes to windows, because it all depends on ur configurations, fonts u got loaded , drivers etc etc.

He's right. If you know what you're doing (and use firefox) you don't need antivirus software. Heck I don't even get spyware and I surf all the time.
