I don’t remember which one but there was a thread talking about directories sending emails/notifications and that was marked as spam. If I remember correctly, some even said getting a news letter from Aviva is kind of Spam even when it was sent after few months. (~ I think it was about Aviva acquiring Umdum)

So, what I want to know is, if you would be getting email from a directory that has something to do with your site, will you consider it as “Spam”??? (And I am specifically talking about Paid Directories)

I think few people don’t even like getting much notifications. (Submission, Rejection etc)

So what’s do you guys think abut getting an email for your listing?? And most importantly, do u even read such mails?

There is a big difference between a spam email and a genuine email, unfortunately the market is so inept and in-experienced that all or nearly all mail is categorized as spam
Should not be so, but it is, for me any genuine email will be opened and read :)

Spam is any email that you didn't ask for, so approval/rejection emails would not be classed as spam in my eyes cause you submitted a link , but If I sent out an email to all the people that have submitted to my directory telling them about a new directory,or some type of promotion yes it's spam.

I like to receive the emails regarding my site and their directory, im also comfortable for a decent directory to send me information on anything thats new on their directory or a special offer and things like that.

I actually appreciate that and respect the owner for keeping me up to date and i cant knock them for trying to get me to upgrade a link, as long as they dont do it every single day ;)

I'd not mind if you send me email about my listed site :)

Client paid for the review or whatever we say, they did not paid for email advertising.

If you send me notification about your new site or any new directory release or third party advertisement, definitely I will mark you as a spammer ;)

There is a difference between emails sent regarding a submission I made and a newsletter or marketing/advertising fluff. I very much dislike receiving ongoing emails because I submitted a site for review.

Jayde/WebProNews was #1 on my &^%& list for a long time because of this B.S.

If you're listed in any of the latest directories iEntry recently purchased, expect the emails to start up again. It's started again for me.

Anything that comes everyday, or week or 2 weeks is Spam by no means. I just delete it. Cause all mails are the same, but different content.

Me too, I guess I am old fashioned as business comes before spam anyday and as business is 365/24/7 information that is informative suits me fine

By the way on our networks we get around a 1,000 spam everyday, hey but thats life these days, they just get deleted:eek:

I don't mind getting email from a directory I submit to as long as its revelant to my site or to the site in question as to new features

But my pet peeve is the ones that tell you that if you unsubscribe from the mailings they will delete your link if its a free link go ahead delete me if I paid they better leave it there

The problem is, not many people think that way. Its true that some of us get too much of spam that even those mails who should be read go in Spam Box. (usually with use of mail filter)
Sending mail everyday?? Nahhhh .... that's not my intention. Also don't have that much time. You know exactly what I am talking about. Don't you? :D

Now that is an interesting reply.
Well, certainly Jyde/WebPro is something none of use can compete. (When it comes to no of spam sent in a day ;) )

I am talking about mails about "your submission" ... that is something to do with "your site".

Though am listed in Jayde and they sent emails but only the week i got listed there and it was about my sites. Never heard back from them since than..

Regarding Web Pro news i do get there emails nearly regularly but they are junked automatically so i really don't care much besides i am not even listed there , not even sure if its a directory or what?:p

So if i receive emails from directories where i am not listed i would mind at least, but if i get from a directory where i am listed and the mail is about my listings than i won't although too much of anything is a pain!!!

Subscribing yourself for newsletters is something purely different!

i get heaps of dir spam
directories announcing a new directory of theirs
directories offering directory and search engine submissions
    directories changing ownership
directories offering specials becuase noone is submitting so they spam and get maybe a couple of new payments

i dont care about any of that! i just want to know my site got accepted or rejected and if/when the link expires an email would be good

You are getting Web Pro News emails *because* you submitted to Jayde.
