Anyone buy a page there? They hit Alexa Rank 1,742 a few weeks ago, and John Chow's latest review convinced me to buy a term there.
I would buy a page, but I don't want to spend 100 bucks on a fad that could end in a matter of weeks.
For John Chow to totally disgrace himself on the internet? You're right. He obviously wanted to sully his name for a couple of hundred measly bucks. I'm obviously way over my head. I know that his term got him 5K views in 10 days. That's well worth the traffic investment, since the traffic will only increase. We'll see in a few months.
Fad? You are confusing it with MDHomepage; A page filled with ads. After a visitor saw the MDHP, they saw everything... having no reason to come back. Fad. The only simularity between the two is the words "the Million Dollar" that appear in both names. Right now there are 300 pages (100ish developed) and I already found some useful stuff from it like BuyABlogger.com and the new craigslist - iMoondo.com. Also, it's not just to get traffic to your website, you can directly profit with ads or affiliate programs. I already made money from my design service I provide (while the site is under 3 months old) and cannot wait to see what kind of business I will be getting when the site grows. While you call it a fad, I'll be calling it an opportunity.
Hmm, never heard of this site, but personally I wouldn't invest $100 into one keyword unless it has been proven to drive massive amounts of traffic. I'd rather spend it on an SEO/directory submission drive.
Nice find, i think im gunna buy one or two pages just to test out, going to be a gamble though seeming as it might be a big flop next week
why dont create your own site with lots of webpages ? What's the advantage of getting a page on milliondollarwiki.com ?
How hard do you have to work to generate traffic with your own site? Think of it as joining a community that shares the traffic everyone generates. eg. If I put something useful on my page and stumble it... the community might get some decent traffic. Now imagine hundreds of owners doing that, you'll get much more traffic for doing less. Plus if you could make your own site, you probably can make a great page, which willl definately land you on the front page right now, not much competition.
The only people making something from this idea are the ones that are charging $100 for a listing on MDW. And just because John Chow likes to say something will get you rich doesn't mean that it will happen...Agloco, anyone?
Shared traffic, for the most part. Psychologically, the person will browse the Most Popular page. The essence here is to grab an opportune niche, such as I took the term 'Proxy'. If you don't agree with that, then it is a community being born. I've already learned some nice tactics from the 4-5 pages I've visited and the forum. Sure, you can join the forum for free anyway, but it's more sentimental when you're a contributor. Call it an investment for a vast amount of knowledge. You'll say that I can get that from DP, but with all the spam, and the bullshit irrelevent to my needs, it's hard to find the quality posts I need. Graham is a university student who runs the site on his own. And John Chow never said that it will make you rich. He approves of it. He's proven that his expendatures were brought back with profit in a matter of 10 days. Let me rephrase that. The man who's proven MDW works, and has had Google running scared during his campaign, has approved of MDW. If I don't trust him as a fellow webmaster, I'll trust him as a fellow Vancouverite. It's more appealing, I think. MDHP was simply a large amount of brightly colored, and very unattractive, images. This is slightly more informational, I believe. People will be skeptical on MDW until it becomes a success. If you've ever seen anyone build a successful business without taking one risk in some way, point him out and I'll be very eager to meet them. If that doesn't satisfy you, then try this compelling argument. It's a hundred bucks. That takes me around a week to make, from all affiliates+AdSense. I've not been webmastering for revenue long, and certainly not full-time, as I am only 17, and am enjoying my life. If you aren't making the same amount, then I guess atleast some of my risks have paid off.
Yeah really, we don't even know if he is a reputable person. For all we may know it seems like his initiative is to make money (there's nothing wrong with that ) for his *dream bar* is he going to build links and optimize/promote it?
A lot of people are just wasting their money on pages because Chow told them too. Some people will make money from the Wiki, most will not. Even when all the pages are sold on the Wiki, the whole thing is pretty boring for a reader.
It may be more appealing and infromational than MDHP but it doesn't have the required 'buzz' which MDHP had.
It's the kind of site you wish you'd thought of. If he's sold 300 pages then that's $30,000 already. It's much more appealing than MDHP to actually visit.
