Hi. I'd like to ask what you think are the top 10 or 12 best website promotion strategies. I recently had a conversation with someone who feels that social bookmarking/networking is a waste of time. I would gather that my friend is probably in the minority, but what do you think? Any comments on the best promotion techniques? Evan Davis
Depends on what niche your blog is based. Also depends on the type of audience you want to target. If you want to target the youth, all and sundry, theres nothing better than viral marketing. But if you want to sell computer peripherals and all then perhaps link building and getting your site to rank higher in search engines is a better and a viable option.
SN sites can give you good results if you have done good SEO for your website, my point is to combine SEO and SMO that will bring significant result.
I usually say very humble things about the opinions of SEO and related stuff from different people and SEO Techs such as I am but please listen to this good: Social Bookmarking is the MOST powerful thing on the intenet today as far as getting you positon and some rank!! Trust that!!! Get as many as you can!! Of course there are many other great links to have, and you should, but socials are the greatest thing out right now!!
Social networking only works if you are willing to take the time to build relationships. Once people know you, then, they can recommend your services to their friends and colleagues.
But ONLY for sites of a SOCIAL nature. So many people just like to rubber stamp ideas.. Example- you are selling cell phones..would a social bookmark strategy work? I dunno..prob not. How about you are building a business directory site...bookmarks blow the doors off? no...it wont. BUT, lets say you are building a forum on jazz music, or hip hop dancing etc.. YES, those are SOCIAL topics and SOCIAL in nature and bookmarking CAN make that explode..so... think about your topic BEFORE you promote..
not all traffic sources are created equally... top "strategies": web2.0 (social marketing) search engine marketing (PPC, SEO) banner advertising cpa network press release article marketing etc. etc. etc.
social bookmarking can give you lots of traffic if you have good quality articles! but you will need to get your link on websites with a higher PR then yours - be careful though to link with websites related with yours! submit your site to free directories and if you have some cash you can try for paid directories as well!
Thank you all for the great replies. How to promote your site and put it in the path of the massive traffic available on the Internet is a $64 gazillion question. Internet traffic is a "freight train" that I certainly want my sites to be in front of--but, and speaking for myself, although that sounds so simple and it remains deceptively elusive and complex. One technique I'll mention that has helped me facilitate a traffic flow is the mass submission of rss feeds either manually or with a tool such as rss submit. I would not only submit the blog rss feed, but write rss feeds for the various pages of a site giving each a title using signigicant key words and then submit them. You can even turn your sitemap into an rss feed and submit that, as well. Just some thoughts. This has helped me stimulate a traffic flow, but I'd be hard pressed to give specific stats. I wouldn't call it a "freight train" of traffic but nor would I call it insignificant. Evan
Some thing's i've done: Call a Radio-Show and mention your site Get on the front page of Digg Get on the front page of Digg again Convince a crazy-dude to tattoo your website on his body and watch it go viral
Social networking can give you very good results if used right. I personally getting good benefits from it for my site. You can also post ads on classified ad sites like mine
Social bookmarking is very powerful, I have had tons of my social bookmark submissions rank in Google and point right back to my site...
I personally had a boost on my traffic statistics only the first day i added some page from my site on stumbleupon account. And the second day nothing, absolutely nothing. I'm wondering why only on the first day? Can you tell me why?
submission to quality web directories for searchengine traffic.. smo or social networking for non-searchengine traffic.
Stumbleupon is something I would put at the bottom of my lists. Average stumbleupon visitors will stay on your site for several seconds then leave forgetting about your site. Chances are very slim they will ever come back. On the contrary if you use other social networking sites technorati, reddit etc. You will get two things, traffic and a backlink.
Site topic has EVERYTHING To do with promotion.. "I recently had a conversation with someone who feels that social bookmarking/networking is a waste of time". If you have a myspace clone, this guy would be dead wrong. If you are selling ebay products, he would be dead on right... make sense? Tell us your site topic and we can discuss promotion options
I agree that site topic is crucial to the sort of promotion strategy pursued. At present time, social sites are the hot strategy. For myself, SB has been helpful, though I'm not sure that I've had the success with it that others here have. However, I have several newer sites with which I'll be pursuing a far more aggressive promotion strategy. Has anyone here every had any success with managed traffic trading? Evan
