I don't mind being thought of as crazy, especially if I am right (well not me but the Bible) 'Cos if these promises in the bible are true then I will live to see the end of this terrible human rulership and get to live on earth, restored to paradise, under the awesome reign of Jesus Christ as King, for ever! If they are not true, then I have lost nothing except the occasional person thinking I am crazy, and thanks to the Bible's guidance I have lived a very fine life; clean, unaddicted, happy, loving and being loved.
How about a healing where four inches (10 cm) of bone is restored, would that count? There was a ten year old Dinka girl about ten years ago who was fleeing Sudanese government troops with her family. They opened fire on her family. She took a bullet through her shin. It enter through the front leaving a small hole but blew out the shin bone and back of her calf. She laid down pretending to be dead, eventually she got first aid, a simple splint and was transported days later out of the country. She had no special treatment like bone graphs and today she still has the scar wear the bullet entered and over 5 inches of scar tissue on her calf She has no limp and is doing well living in southern California. I also find it interesting how well matched the color of the scar is to her dark brown skin. Does God heal? Yes but we may not see it often as we rely on our medical treatments and not on Him.
Wait so with all the suffering in the world you're going to point out where God made some little girl's shin look pretty? Then go on to say we may not see God's healing because people with common sense get medical treatment and it's healed already? I truly often wonder sometimes if religious people are even capable of hearing themselves speak and truly understand what they're saying...
Why are you ignoring the healing? Four inches of bone was restored which is an unnatural occurrence. The mentioning of the appearance is clearly a blessing in addition to the healing Common sense would tell you she couldn't get the kind of medical treatment. She was in a country where the government was attacking non-muslims, burning down villages, and probably wasn't supplying people with medical facilities that they would go to with there common sense. You are ignorant of what conditions in the world are like. All of us have a religious system. You have either an impotent God or you deny the existence of God. You have a theology of healing that says it just happens or doesn't happen. Vastly complex things like DNA just sorta happened in your theology while in mine, we are fearfully and wonderfully made. I wonder if people who claim to not have a religious system can actually hear themselves speak and truly understand what they're saying...
I noticed she was repeating what the Watchtower trains her to say, too. But what if Watchtower doctrine and their revised Bible are not true and historic Christianity is true?
Who says historic Christianity is not true? If one of the things Jehovah's Witnesses go by is historic Christianity. Think about these things: What did Jesus do when he was on earth? Give all glory to his father, minister to everybody by way of going door to door, preaching the good news of the Kingdom. What did the apostle Paul do when God asked him to become a minister? Give all glory to God for bringing Jesus to earth and teaching him and others about the good news of the Kingdom. This is historical Christianity is it not? Do Jehovah's Witnesses do this any differently than the examples presented by Jesus and the apostle Paul? I think not. Therefore, we see historical Christianity as a pivotal part of our beliefs, all according to the Bible of course. So, if the Watchtower doctrine teaches Christian history and has revised the translation of the Bible to read more accurately so it reflects the accuracy of Christian history, where is it that this is wrong in your eyes? I feel your vision of us and what we do is somewhat tainted or stained by what others tell you. What you should do is find these things out for yourself. What you say about Watchtower and Jehovah's Witnesses has all been said before. However, personal research and actually talking to us will reveal to you the truth about us. Don't join the bandwagon that is full of people listening to lies and slanderous statements. Go see for yourself. There is a wonderful verse in the Bible. 2 Corinthians 4:2 "but we have renounced the underhanded things of which to be ashamed, not walking with cunning, neither adulterating the word of God, but by making the truth manifest recommending ourselves to every human conscience in the sight of God". In other words "make the truth your own". It's something no one can ever take away from you, or mislead you. Daily reading of the Bible and the gathering of ourselves together, encouraging one another and upbuilding one another as God's day draws nearer. Regards, Col
I always take their literature and even sent away for Reasoning from the Scriptures and the Greek Interlinear. The version of the interlinear that I have is troubling for much of the JW doctrine as it shows the Greek with the word for word translation right below and has the New World Translation next to it. Many contradictions between the word for word and the NWT. I also took a class from a former worker at Bethel at a time when JWs were swarming my neighborhood. So I have both literature and first hand accounts from Brooklyn.
What you are saying here does not take away the facts that we are doing what Jesus asked us to do. Which is, living our lives according to how God wants us to, and preach the good news of the kingdom all around the globe. This is the very basis of what defines a "Christian". Just the same as what all of Jesus's apostles and disciples did back in his day. There is no refuting that fact. People can think there are contradictions between whatever texts they have available to them, as much as they like. This does not take away the facts that we are doing God's will. You know the saying "You must love God with all your soul, with all your heart and with all your mind"? It's not an easy thing to do. It's not something one can do fully, but only on weekends or whenever one feels like it. It's so easy to point fingers at each other and accuse one another saying "You are not doing it right". To me. It serves no purpose. What we teach is from the Bible. The message is the same in all Bibles that have the Old Testament and The New Testament. I conduct several Bible Studies with people of all ages and different backgrounds. I even use different Bible translations, including the Catholic Douay translation, the King James translation and the Good News Edition. My wife had 5 different translations open when she studied. Just to see that what was being taught is a Bible teaching and not mans teaching. Therefore, contradictions are only contradictions according to those looking for contradictions. For what purpose though? Accuracy? Or avoiding the truth? That's a decision for each individual to make. Regards, Col
It's a shame that you need the bible to do something which the rest of us find perfectly easy to do on our own. If you truly do believe that the only reason you are clean, unaddicted, happy, loving and being loved is because of the bible i would seriously suggest you get some kind of counseling. That's an entirely unhealthy way to live.
Yeah sure, just look how well-adjusted the world is, everyone living very fine lives; clean, unaddicted, happy, loving and being loved - 'cloud cuckoo' springs to mind!
It is your perception. First, when you claim God is all-knowing why do can't you accept that being amputated was best for the person who was amputated. Second, who says there is no cure for amputation. There are many people who have had severed limbs re generate. Ofcourse Medical science does not support this - but welcome to the spirtual world. Yes, it is possible.
Most people in the world believe in religion and gods though. So you kinda kicked your own argument in the crotch there. What? It was best for every amputee to lose a limb? Why is it not best for every cancer victim to die from cancer then? Why single out amputees as the ones who don't deserve miracles? Your argument doesn't make any sense. Name some of the "many people who have had severed limbs regenerate" or retract it.
I don't think so, the subject was bible guidance not 'religion', try to keep up. Religion is the source of most of the world's problems, that's why people need bible guidance.
Christianity still makes up a third of the global population and around 80% of the oh-so-stable america. With 80% of the population believing in your magical book america should be a harmonious society, The reality is far detached from that flawed assumption though isn't it. I wonder, How many times am i going to have to own you with facts and humiliate you before you make the clever decision to stop forming baseless opinions.
Because amputation is something that cannot be solved by modern medicine? God is only capable of healing people with the help of highly trained medical professionals.
Humiliate me? I don't think so. You are clearly confused as to what constitutes true Christianity. Belief in God or the bible does not equal a person being a Christian, as the bible itself says, "You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that— and shudder. You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless?" (James 2:19,20)
Is a "true christian" like a "true scotsman".. i.e. a way for you to remove evidence that proves you to be a liar? 80% of america is christian. FACT!
"Wikipedia" So a true Christian is a disciple of Christ Jesus whose life is centred around his life and who follow his teachings in their day-to-day life. Hence not all 80% of Americans claiming to be Christian are in fact Christian, the evidence is clear for all to see - fact. Many true Scotsmen are Christians though!
