Well, with Russia moving in, greenland staking a claim and Canada trying to protect what has always been considered theirs, who do you think should have rights to the arctic and the vast amount of oil underneath it?

Maybe the Eskimos or Inuit who are natives to those areas of the arctic? If not then i think no one, the rest of the world in in such a mess, leave the relatively pristine arctic alone.

I agree it should be left alone, but research should be done up there I think, just not anything industrial.

I agree that drilling is not a good idea but the arctic has and always will be Canadian territory. It's not even a matter of my own patriotism, it simply always has been that way. For Russia to take a shot at it now is obviously only due to its cash potential. Canadians have shown in polls that they want the arctic left alone for now; Russia will exploit it immediately and without public consultation.

Yay, a Canadian. I agree it should be ours, but in the end, it's what our government is willing to do to fight for it, and what the UN rules.

the Arctic is not a land mass, it's water, so it is also outside the 200 mile limits of any country. therefore its international waters, so no-one can lay claim to it.

next thing you'll have Argentina claiming the whole north and south Atlantic as theirs.

You're actually mistaken on many levels. While much of the arctic is covered in ice, there is also abundant land. It is recognized by the UN as belonging to Canada as it has for the past 500 years; it is not, as you claim, international water.
