Unlike you, I am scared to die. Most rational people have a fear of death. I'm not under the impression that there will be 72 virgins waiting for me when I die. I know when it's over, it's over.

Does it make me a coward for not looking forward to death? Maybe.
Does it make me sane because I don't look forward to death like some? I think so.

I think I'd rather be beheaded, so long as it's quick. A sniper shot you will live for a minute maybe two in agony, depending on where the shot is. Mind you, beheading isn't exactly the most tempting offer,

Direct hit to the brain, and you're gone in a second.
Cutting your throat might take a minute or two, and the sick idea of being conscience while someone is cutting your head off is very disturbing. And painful. Very painful.

Apparently you have never watched a beheading. It isn't over in a second. This isn't like in mid evil times when that big ass blade falls on your head and it falls off like a tomato off a tomato vine.

The be-headings in the middle east are done with what's basically a steak knife. Lots of back and fourth sawing motion combines with FREAKY ass screams and moans from the victim before AND after his vocal cords and throat is cut.

Mate, I watched the Perl, Armstrong and many other videos..

Honestly these videos left an impact on my life that would never wear off.
The screams of Armstrong were horrible. I just cant forget it ever in my entire life.

If you're scared to die then you need to grow up and face reality. That isn't a dig; death is what it is. I don't look forward to it and I'll do everything in my power to stave it off for as long as possible, but when it comes, I'd like to be ready.

Not looking forward to death doesn't make you a coward at all, and I also agree that you would be less then sane if you looked forward to death. My point about cowardice was made under the assumption that, in our example, death was inevitable.

For the record I have no hopes for 72 virgins either. I am effectively a spiritual atheist; I have no expectations of a life after my death.

Not at all. A theist is someone who believes in a monotheistic supreme being or "god." While I don't believe in any such thing, I do believe that there is an innate spirituality to our world and universe; I simply have no idea what it is :D

Really I'm a deeply spiritual person in that I focus a great deal of attention on the person that I am. I do believe that there is a possibility that our actions in this lifetime could effect something that may exist for us down the road. At the same time I believe that that would come as a result of karma or known energy as opposed to any type of judgement.

Everything came from something, right? :)

What does growing up have to do with being scared to die? My grandmother is 85 and she has told me she is scared to die with her eyes tearing up.

My uncle (50+ y/o) once told me he that death is a scary factor when you get to be his age.

So what, anyone who feels this way needs to "grow up"?
    Please.

Death is a fact of life. I don't plan to spend my senior years being afraid of the natural cycle of things. That isn't intended as a dig to your family members; my grandmother is the same way as your aunt. But my grandmother is also religious and superstitious; reality is reality, there is no point in crying over the inevitable.
