Everytime my sales go down it is because paypal have messed with the payment page. Instead of the old 'If you don't have a paypal account no problem click here' it is now asking you to sign up for a paypal account to order, this puts many people off who just want to pay by their credit card and don't understand what paypal is....O.K why do they keep changing things, forget the 'You need to open a paypal account' it puts people off, its hard enough getting people to buy on line without complicating things........If it is not broken don't fix it paypal. I may have to look into a new payment method, any idea which is the best, I take around £400 a week, so is it worth it?
You might try worldpay, especially if you are non-profit. 2CO might be also an option. Also, see if Paypal offers your country the Website Payments Pro - this way you can keep the customers on your website
I think probably it has to do with all the tigthening of financial regulations in the light of money laundering and frauds. If you are a member and you get verified legally on paypal then that would reduce the level of frauds since you be subjected to more checks. Of course in the end, they want you as a returning customers. Paypal pretty much charges extremely low fees and they need to get recursive customers in order to remain profitable. Other payment processors would inevitable charge a lot more.
This screenshot is the "new" payment page that I'm seeing. It does have a non-PayPal option at the bottom left. Are you seeing a different layout? Can you post it? http://www.saferwhois.com/images/paymentpage1.png http://www.saferwhois.com/images/paymentpage2.png Edit: I see on your site's payments page that this option is missing. Could it be an option when you make the button? I'd be in trouble too if I lost this option for my customers. I see you are billing in pounds. Perhaps it is a country/currency specific option. Can you contact PayPal & ask?
Sorry everyone for coming back to this post late, a lot to think about there and thanks for all your reply's. All I get an is almost unreadable sized 'continue' button if you don't have a paypal account, very hard to see and still costing me visitors, so I may have to swap. Paul
Sure, but what if the members have no clue at all and don't have enough common sense to look at the "Help" section (or whatever it is)? PayPal must be getting those people frustrated. I think this is just a bad move, even though it's still there it should still be easier to see. If people just pay via credit card without an account and see how easy it is and how efficient it is then I think that most would join as they'd see it's worth it and they would most likely get more benefits.
Completly agree, they are going to lose a members (Including me) and lose sales through this, which is surely the bottom line. I have emailed them and got the usual crap reply. Bring back the old page and my sales will be what they once was, I think its time to move.
