Another scammer, different tactic

    Hey Guys,

A few days ago I had a conversation with someone claiming they had submitted the web site evanshalshaw.com to one of my directories. I of course checked, found no such entry and responded back to the guy requesting him to supply me with the PayPal transaction ID.

He came back to me with two, which I promptly checked and of course they didn't exist, in fact they were improperly formatted. Again I responded back and advised the guy to carry out a chargeback claim to identify where he had submitted his site because it wasn't with my directory.

He politely thanked me and said he would look into it. What was odd about all of this is that he gave me three different figures which he claimed he had paid, none of which matched the review prices I offer.

Low and behold, this morning I get an email from a completely different guy, again claiming that he has paid to submit the same web site.

Anyway, it looks to me like they are hoping that as an owner you either won't check properly or just take their fake PayPal transaction ID's as real and add them to your dirs.... so be careful, make sure you check.

Yes but what surprised me was the length's he went to... I mean most scammers will send you the first mail, but few will follow up with fake PayPal transactions and then thank you when you tell them as such! :D

Could be a sleazy SEO company that is charging their customers for paid directory links and this is a way to make 100% profit. They don't sound none to bright though.

Yes, I had few case like this. When I asked them to show me their PP transaction ID then most of them gone. Never back again :p

Before approval any submission you should check the payment email from PP, for avoiding scam.

Also, 2co user must be wait for the verification of 2co, many submission comes in this way with fake info.

Alert seems to be serious as I had submission with same website and the owner used same tactics. Of course I checked PP - no transaction.
In next 2 emails guy wrote he's sure he paid - and in the end he gave up - wrote it was his mistake and it was other directory
