I honestly feel there are only two valid reasons as to why people upgrade to Vista. 1) The look and feel (transparent windows, nicer HUD, etc.). This is a very shallow reason that is rather ridiculous, especially considering that there are already tons of themes and programs to give you the same or similar look and feel on XP. Yet, ask most common people why they upgrade to Vista, and they'll tell you it's because of "the look". Also, it's pretty obvious that Microsoft were trying to imitate Apples look and feel. 2) Direct X 10. This is also a rather silly reason, seeing as how most games don't even use direct X 10. Halo 2 was just released on PC as "Vista only". Guess what? People have been able to install it (using hacks) on windows XP easily because it's a direct X 9 game. I don't see direct x 10 as a valid reason to upgrade now. Now, I know alot of you are gonna shout at me about how much MORE is in Vista over XP, and I know. I agree with you. Vista is a newer, better, more advanced operating system that is bloated beyond belief. Here I'm merely demonstrating the two reasons as to WHY average people upgrade. They are the two most common reasons and most average people won't even know about (or use) Vista's more advanced stuff.
My computer is brand new and had never crashed, WELL not until I installed Vista on to it vista has to be the biggest Joke ever
Dude. We think completely the opposite. The only person that would WANT to switch to vista is either someone who has NEVER, and I mean NEVER opened a computer case before, or someone who just bought a quad cpu, 2 good nvidia gpus, 8gigs of ram, a good powersupply to power it all, and maybe a 30" lcd witha 1ms response time and a beyond believe contast ration, or in fewere words, SOMEONE VERY VERY RICH. (i.e. Trumb, Gates, maybe the google founder dude)
haha... 8GB of ram. Im sure it would run perfectly on 4GB, which is okay for most desktops I guess , new ones now a days. As for laptops... lol, its at 40% system idle with 2GB ram. Yay for vista.
yeah, but someoen willing to buy a 30" lcd should definatelly go for the 8gb . Plus with a computer like that, why not get 8gb
1 more resone Its atualy 100% safer, that UAV or what ever it is, works, i nearly had a Virus installed, but Vista stoped it. And it works great on 512mb ram.
If you want safer, go to Linux. That UAV is the most annoying thing in the world. Got Virus? Go get a good virus cleaner, or scanner or watever. AVG works great. I dont know how long you had it for, but 512mb is definately not enough. And if you think it's enogh, try running photoshop, or dreamweaver.
I've never understood this thing people have about needing loads of ram, my laptop (which i use with dreamweaver and photoshop) cost £300 and only has 256mb ram! I have a decent computer but these programs work fine on minimal ram. If you ask me its just that people with loads of ram would like to think that they spent their money wisely and couldn't live without tonnes of ram.
Dude trust me. I've had 512 ram before. It sucked. I have 1gig ram right now. It still sucks, but it's a bit better. Tell you what. I have 20 or so processes running in the beginning when my computer boots up. Then, another 20 or so open up at the same time (this is what i call multitasking...aim, msn, yahoo, firefox, ie, opera, dreamweaver, photoshop, smartftp, notepad, xfire, mirc, and some other crap) For people like me, loads of ram is like a necessity. I've seen two different vista computers. One ran on 3gigs of ram, one ran on 512mb. If you ever used vista, you know that it has a blue little circle that spins when your computer is "thinking". I've played around on the 3 gig one for about 15 mins, opening all sorts of programs. Never even seen it. Played around on the 512mb one, it showed up after every program i opened. Ram matters. If you want proof, google. http://www.computermemoryupgrade.net/why-more-ram-is-better.html
Yes those moneyed lot, Trumb [sic], Gates and 'google founder dude' do not have the liquidity issues the rest of us are preoccupied with. I clicked on this thread very curious as to whether any average user would be able to identify two valid reasons to upgrade to Vista, or in other words put up with the time, peace of mind, & resource impact of upgrading/installing a new OS. Gamers aside, and even if you are a gaming-nut who has to keep up with the most pointless bleeding edge just for the heck of being 'first', what gaming titles are available on the PC that are so astounding that they make their DirectX9.0c equivalents seem poor by comparison? Any? Beyond that the reasons to upgrade to Vista are (in totallity): You have a need to install more memory than XP can address... (<4GB if I understand this correctly). You need to run a 64-bit Windows only app. Beyond that what the hell are you doing dumping XP? A little story: I have recently upgraded an XP machine with a new graphics card, gone from ATi to Nvidia. I have added new RAM and installed and removed a whole bunch of applications, including the complete set of codecs I use for all audio and video, I have downloaded 80GB, winrar'd similar amount, transcoded a whole bunch of data, burnt around 20 DVDs of data, installed a new browser etc. etc. you get the idea. The point of me telling you all this, is that during the entire time, I have done all of this without rebooting. I don't mean that apps have not crashed or that processes have not got locked or 'gone bad' etc. at one point I really thought I would have to reboot, but I tracked the fault down to some processed initiated by certain apps which I shut down & kept going. I have not rebooted this machine in over a month and I am typing this to you from said machine. Why the hell do I need Vista? Anyone? (Thing that are vexing in XP, are the unbelievably forced moronic info bubbles that keep interjecting while I work about 'urgent things' like space is running out on volumes etc. etc. & the way that the file permissions seems to be botched with file handles once again interfering with my deleting, moving and renaming commands. But you can get around this imbecillity. I am certain Vista corrects these and adds a few more different ones. It is always the way).
huh!.. this two is not only the reason. Windows Visa gives superb internet connection optimization. Which allows you to get faster connection in reliabablew way. I have Windows Vista as well as XP installed in my hard disk. And I know what are the reason of being switching to visa from XP.
Couldnt agree more. DirectX 10 is irresistible. Look at these DirectX 10 ONLY games. http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=1010840&postcount=1
Personally I think relative to all the hype & high-talk of generation-smashing Dx10 technologly etc.,those screenshots are underwhelming. But look at what was said: "...I figured it would be a good idea to take a look at some of the future titles that will make good use of next generation DX10 cards" That is my point. Why should I upgrade to Vista to get Dx10 now?
Essentially your saying 2 reasons. Look and feel and Powerful graphics acceleration. How are these ridiculous reasons. Its been proven time and time again eye candy sells. It might take a while before people upgrade to better computers that will do a better job of running vista but rest assured people will bite the hook
Well, this is no longer the case, as an independent project is already making DirectX 10 for Windows XP available for download. "I'm proud to release a preview of our DirectX 10 compatibility libraries. These libraries allow the use of DirectX 10 games on platforms other than Microsoft Vista, and increase hardware compatibility even on Vista, by compiling Geometry Shaders down to native machine code for execution where hardware isn't capable of running it. No longer will you have to upgrade your OS and video card(s) to play the latest games," revealed Cody Brocious, Lead Engineer on the Alky Project. download: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Progra...es/Alky-DirectX-Compatibility-Libraries.shtml
Ah yes the Alky project, and unfortunate connotation for a tech-based product. If you are based in the UK, OZ or NZ you know what I am talking about. Or do Canadians and USians use this also?
XP runs much less processes. It's much better than Vista in all respects. Quote below about the alky project. I was gonan say it, but just quoting it was easier. There are themes and shit you can install for XP. why switch to vista? Thats only when it accepts the connection. I know a guy who couldnt connect his computer to the internet because of vista. switched back to XP and it worked fine (office network or something ) Quote below :::::
Vista runs fine on 512 RAM.... PFFFT XP sucks on 512 RAM Use the computer for something other than viewing a forum and then tell me... For any decent computer activity, 512 will not be enough for vista. even if I am working on a website, downloading something, on MSn and aim and listening to music... 512 would be HEAVILY stressed. And... again vista is using just a little 1GB of ram (half my ram) right now to operate. Clearly it is not giong work well on half of a half of what I have.
I don't know why but i just don't like Vista at all. I am currently using Windows XP which i think it's the best for me
