And that is obvious and very true. You can find thosands of TRASH with high PR and/or high ranked in SERPs.
you made a very good point here. why would i want to add some sites if there was a chance i could make some $$$ if they added it themselves - im sure we all think this. Very nice ask, seems you are adding quality sites yourself to get that. Whats your name btw?
Content can only be effectively ranked by humans (at least with present technology), that is the all base of the google link algorithm, links are done by people that evaluate content. PR only counts inbound links power X quantity not content.
interesting statistics: Here is stat for www.cbgred.com Active Links 1006 Categories 417 ratio: 1 : 2.4
My PR stats are bit lower as I do not add PR10 or PR9 links by myself. Also number of total links is much higher as for a long time I was accepting free links. PR9 (1) PR8 (8) PR7 (32) PR6 (171) PR5 (440) PR4 (961) PR3 (851) PR2 (285) PR1 (70) PR0 (47) Total PR sum = 10550 (divided by) Total links = 2986 average PR = 3.533 Still not so bad. Whatever - this is nice stats giving important info about dir.
I agree that content can only be effectively ranked by humans, the eyes don't lie. So its a bit of a farce then this PR as it gives kudos to empty categories and so on. Links power? so is that why the so called authority directories got that status, by buying so many links? Which by all accounts has ultimately probably brought the death of PR. Irony at its best.
