I've been using onecare from MS for over a year now, and have not had any issues, but then again I watch what I download and don't open BS emails.

A properly (stealthed) router is all you really need, but you might as well run the Windows firewall on top of that. The reason people want a robust software firewall is to block outbound traffic, but if you're already infected, the virus has disabled your software firewall and you're now just running more bloated software. As for anti-spyware... I haven't got a single infection since early 2006. same with viruses, it just doesn't happen unless you're using IE 6 and clicking "Yes" to everything, opening email attachments or installing software from shady sources. I run nod32 for anti-virus because of it's exceptionally small resource footprint.

As far as a Windows software firewall Commodo has a free firewall that I've used and liked:

    http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/

Having worked at an ISP a few years ago I got a distaste for Zone Alarm although I'm sure it's a better product nowadays.

First Kaspersky is not a Anti Spyware... Kaspersky is a Anti Virus :)

I think the best Anti Spyware is/are .. Spyware Doctor and Ad Aware SE (2007) :)

    Good Anti-spyware list.

I would recommend running Spybot and making sure you run its "immunize" function. Helps keep away many different malwares (after all, no use scanning and zapping in a cyclic manner all the time).

I have used AVG antivirus for a few years with no issues - maybe worth a look.
