Two very similar websites on same server.

I have two very similar website on the same hosting package. I am trying to optimize both websites for similar keywords.

One website does OK in google, but the 2nd is completely absent from the SEO optimized keywords. (it is in google, but for keywords such as the url of the site...)

Can the similarity and the same hosting package be the problem?

 

I've heard it can be a problem. You may want to have a different static IP for the two.

 

I think you either should host one on another server with different ip or you should somehow differentiate these 2 sites.

 

Yes it is a big time problem.. You may even get penalized for that ..

If you have two domain that direct to the same site,your site might be banned you G.

 

Very similar? How similar?

Some people said that google will take sites with less than 40% different contents as duplicate sites. Thus, you will be "punished" accordingly, even with different server with different IP.

I think content is the thing you should focus on.

Why would you create 2 "very similar" websites?

Well, the two websites share the same mysql database which has the content. However, the html and site design is different on each website. I guess I should find a new host and split the two sites on 2 different servers.
