Do you like PHPBB or SMF?

Personally, I prefer SMF to PHPBB.

Both have their own pros and cons. I personally prefer phpBB 3 over SMF right now but then again, it's not a stable release so I'll have to wait for a while before I take it live on one of my websites.

I prefer SMF even over PHPBB3.
Used that but it had too many bugs.

I've never personally tried SMF so I am going to stick with my most favorite... phpBB2 (or phpBB3, whatever you want to call it.)

The problem with PHPBB is the mods...
    and sometimes bots attack it

jump into the 21st century. phpbb is crap, always has been, always will be.

for free forum software its SMF all the way.
if you want to pay for it, go with vB.

SMF is great, never had problems with that... phpbb is easily hacked and has a lot of features limitations,

I have kept my boards updated, and on all of them there has never been a single exploit or hacking. If they're not updated to the latest, then they will be hacked, the same with anything else.

i have seen several hacked SMF boards. only because the owner of the board had left a script on there site that was compromised, or there cpanel password got out, or the server they were hosted on was not secure.

SMF cannot be hacked, if your SMF got hacked, its due to the server or the owner not being security conscious.

phpbb is like a piece of swiss cheese.

PHPBB - because you can do whatever you want with it - and saying it is easily hackable is just plain not true. It is exploitable only when it is not kept up to date, as goes for any other forum software.
