So I can't buy or sell advertising now?

Maybe someone should tell them that not everyone buys/sells links for PR.

Just another reason to keep building my stock position in the big GOOG. :)

It is your site and you are free to do what you want with it. It is their search engine and they are free to include whatever sites they wish.

correct, but if you rely on hits from serach engines then you better play by g's rules.
but youre right, g's behavior pisses me of too. problem is, they can do whatever they want as long as they are on top. would be something else if everyone (this includes YOU!) would take off "search google" from his websites over night or link to some other, still unknown s-e.

Oh yeah, I know. And I'm not whining (yes, many are). It's just the logic that bugs me. But, I think there's more to it than just buying a link. I think they will start (if not already) monitoring forums like this one and other know link selling (for PR) outfits.

I do see where this is going. But I have a vested interest in seeing Google make money, so I don't care one way or the other. :D

I do nt think they have the power to detect 'paid links', but I guess it's all up to them, but I do not think they can put a stop on it, not yet though.

They just want we use adwords. What a shame when Google Adsense itself has so many problems. Too many...

ag, come on guys. All he wants you to do is add a nofollow tag to bought/sold links. He's not saying don't buy/sell links, he's saying don't buy/sell links to get better SERPs but you can buy/sell links for traffic if you add a nofollow tag to those links.

That's perfectly logical to me as it means someone with a crap site but a big budget won't have a higher SERP than a good site with a smaller budget. Well, theoretically anyway...

Anyone and everyone that has said or says "well google sells links" or "they just want us to use AdWords" has NOT done the proper research into the matter.

It pretty much falls down to, selling links for traffic is not the issue, it's selling them for the PR. Feel free to sell links to your hearts content, but specify they are sold links, and please add a means of NOFOLLOW on them as well. Either the rel="nofollow" tag or a script (like many ad-networks, including adsense) uses.

when he says algorithmitcally detect links, i believe hes referring to their ability to look for labels like "Sponsored By" or "Advertisers" next to text links.

so be sure to never label your TLA ads with stuff that is obvious.

That's not all, they may scan all your site, and find for string like pay by paypal, and many many more factors can be detected.

Further report paid links wont let you know who reported you as paid link provider, and I guess it wont be easy for you to justify it to google.

I never bought any link in my whole life, anyways:)

Wrong. They have virtual monoply status. If they begin banning sites for buying/selling links, Google will face thousands of lawsuit overnight.
