Adbrite - Ignorent American rubbish

Yesturday, I looked into signing up with them. At least, that was until I saw the terms of service. They insist on sending checks in US dollars. Why? That's useless to me, I can't cash American checks in the UK without spending nearly the whole amount of the check to do so.

How are they ignorant? It's their business, they can run it however they like. Deal with it.

They don't seem to understand that the US isn't the only country in the world and that it's ridiculous to expect people to accept checks in US dollars. I will deal with it, they don't have my custom.

Take your check to the bank and have it converted. It's a pretty simple concept to understand.

They are a US-based company although I admit that since they offer international service they should make sure to keep their customers happy. Then again, I bet that most of their business is from North America and Asia and nobody there complains; the UK may just be too small a portion of their business to do something special for you. Isn't there any European advertising networks that you can sign with?

You'll find most, probably all ad networks like Adbrite send cheques in US dollars as that is the standard online currency in this industry.

The site I own, AdToll is run from Australia, we are an Australian company, yet we deal in US dollars as well.

    That's the industry.

To cash a US dollar check into an English bank account would cost nearly the value of the check.

I'm not asking anything particularly special, i'm asking them to send it via a method I can use. I don't actually even have to find a European advertising network, every other ad network I know is happy to send it via bank transfer or via paypal. It seems nonsensical to try to mail me a check from the US.

I'm happy to deal in US dollars and, in fact, my hosting company does. If they sent it via paypal I could automatically convert it into GBP. What I don't like is the way they want to mail a check from the US in US dollars to me. It's just plain useless to me.

I completely agree. This isn't just the case for the webmaster industry though, it is true for most if not all online businesses. We sell our products and deal in US dollars.

I think you're doing the math wrong. All you're doing is converting one currency to another. Unless your bank has a massive service charge it shouldn't cost anything.

they're not the only US based company to pay in US check.
payroll cost money and sending a check in US dollars costs the least.
you can have it on hold untill there is enough money to make it worth wild to cash the check or find one that pays in pounds (if i got that right :D ) or paypal.

    I know.

Well, i'll check again and report back on the details.

It would be even cheaper for them to pay by paypal :p. I'm going to go with one that will pay papal, as I can convert that into pounds (yes, you were right).

So then the moral of the story is.... DONT USE ADBRITE.... there's plenty of ad networks that do pay via PayPal... like AdToll. ;)

Nearly the whole amount? I get cheques from adbrite, canep media etc each month and I can assure you they dont come anywhere close to the full value of the cheque. I spose if you're only making $10 then maybe yes, but Natwest isn't too bad, works out around £5 per check, despite them saying a different figure every time, just ignore it and bank it!

Are you some kind of idiot? Most PPC networks payout in USD. I am from UK and receive cheques in USD. All I do is take it to the bank and it is converted.

Oh sorry my bad. Adsense converts your USD earnings into GBP or whatever the currency of your country. Pretty unprofessional if Adbrite doesn't send it converted.
