Hey, I would like to get a forum going similar to this one, except the topics will be SEO, Object Oriented Programming (like Java, C++), scripting (Shell, Perl, PHP, Javascript), and OS discussions.

If anyone has advice on how to draw people in and encourage them to post and ask questions on my site please help me out, I would like to start drawing a lot of traffic to my site from IT people who are interested in these topics.

should mention the site name, www Dot newhorizondesigns Dot org/Nuke/html/index.php still no live links :(

You mean like those talking characters, the text to speech kind of thing?

I'm looking more for discussion of coding, software engineering, SEO, development, etc.

First make ur forum rush.If a user starts a thread it should atleast get more than five replies.
    Hire some serious forum posters.

priyakochin is right! Make sure you generate big traffic and then start implementing the rest.

As for your comment I just want to say that I didn't have in mind the sitepal talking characters if that's what you mean.

I was talking about http://live-chat-support-software-review.toptenreviews.com/index.html stuff like these
