I know name calling is an infraction.

say you post three times on a single thread and use name calling, that would be three infracts, right?

what if You edit your original post to name call against three people, would that still only be 1 point?

Too funny.. Are you asking because you want to insult someone in a thread or because you have been insulted. LOL

I think that everytime you make a derogative statement towards a person or group you should recieve an infraction. So three name callings on one post to me would equal 3 infractions.. IMO

but if we take this further wouldn't it be every bad thing you say about someone gets you a -1? then you couldn't hardly say anything about someone without getting a ban.

I just think this is good info to have in case I need to let out some anger. Don't want to get blocked, just punished, so I have to know where the lines are.

Would only count as one infraction.

Of course you can be critical - you just need to use carefully chosen words when you do it. Think more linguistic charm rather than gutter mouth.

Try not to worry about it too much - just follow the rules.

then I should just save up all my anger and blast it out in one big list, right?

I don't even have any anger towards anyone at dp, but I like to plan for the future, and maybe someone will be shady and then I'll put them on this list.

depending on the gravity of the name calling, it can lead to an outright ban without any infractions

I don't think it would only count as one. I received 4 for "bumping" one thread (although I wouldn't consider it bumping when I was letting people know that I'd done something for them).

To the above question, I'd say you'd get an infraction for each instance, whether it's on the same thread or not.

Infractions are given at the post level, not the thread level. You can only get 1 infraction per post but there's a not a limit of how many you can get per thread.

there seems to be some dispute as to what happens. some say 1, some say many, some say outright ban if you're nasty enough. who can provide some real answers?

    I just did:)

Infractions are given at the post level - limit one infraction per post - although some infractions count for more than 1 point.

    10 infraction points = banned.

Mods/admins can ban someone regardless of the number of infractions they have if they feel it's needed.

Look at the last point on the posting guidlines.

I've never seen anyone banned for "personal reasons". People are banned for violating the rules.
