I'm starting out with CJ, What products do you recommend selling? I'm planning on doing PPC, Banners...
I wouldn't bother with banners. If you have a website, use the text links provided by the advertisers, and create deep links to specific products related to your site.
I agree, banners are dead. Use text links within your regular text, kind of like one of those contextual intellitxt ads, except you'll get a much better overall payout with a CJ merchant text link. Of course it's a lot more time consuming than intellitxt or any of the other similar contextual text ad programs, but at least there is a reward for your extra time.
If banners are dead, why do I keep seeing them on nearly every sight on the internet? They must work for somebody.
I wonder the same thing. I'm sure some larger sites work large deals with advertisers to display banners for a given period of time, and many large companies tend to be clueless when it comes to the net. They remember seeing a banner ad once and assume that's the way everyone advertises. They also might want to get their brand out there. Those interactive banners are probably the only ones that get a CTR above .5%. I really can't figure out any other good way to use banners.
I still think banners can work for PPC, but if you're expecting people to click on an interesting looking banner, then spend money - well... CJ works so much better if you target people who have already decided what they want to buy. You just have to drop your cookie and point them in the right direction. I find the best method is to target people who have already decided that they want to purchase ProductX, but are just waiting for that little push to get them to buy...
Do you have examples of websites with this kind of system set up? I've always thought the main benefit of banners lies in visibility. After all, people can't buy stuff from a site they can't see.
I think banners work for companies with a HUGE advertising budget, just to get name recognition... as far as easy sales... become an ebay affilite and set up a nich store and seo the heck out of it. it can take some time to start getting natural traffic, but you will have a residual income from there on out. and NEVER stop your seo efforts, even after you have reached your goal for the site.
A combination of all will work. You just don't want a site will all banners on it. This would look like a link farm to some.
