what will you do if your directory overflows or has no space to accomodate new listings? I am worried that after 5-10 years this would happen. what are the big directories doing to solve this problem. Thanks
Not relevant see the old directories and you will see they have been going that length of time without any problems
thanks britishguy, but still when visitors see number of pages under a single category, doesnt that initimidate them when they come to pay for new submission.
Probably a good indication that it might be time to reorganize and sub categorize some listings if there are pages of listings.
You will also probably find a large number of sites can be removed as they don't all stick around forever.
How does your directory get full? Isn't it database based? If you wanted to clear old sites, you could run through the results and look for dead links.
Making sure categories don't get out of hand is just one of the jobs you should be doing to maintain a directory. When a category gets a certain number of listings, it's usually time to split it and introduce subcategories. What may be intimidating is the possibility of getting a listing many clicks from the homepage, in a deep subcategory. But this shouldn't matter if your directory is well promoted and you put featured listings on prominent pages.
Keep a tab on the listings.. Remove less important and broken sites and update the directory regularly.
Very true! This is will not only empty space but also will help to maintain the integrity of the directory too.
