What's the deal around here today? This is the second thread I've seen where the OP appears to be asking an honest question and they got totally dumped on.

Get off your high horses people.

There are many free directories that offer deep links. I don't know of anyone who has a list, but I fairly well suspect there is someone here keeping one. Hopefully they will let you know.

 

Nothing is for free in this world.


Try to think about what a free web directory actually is. What will the quality of a free web directory be? Will it give my listing a seo boost or traffic?

Try to imagine that in relation to a paid directory, with quality reviews, promotion, traffic and more.
Could that free directory hurt your rankings instead of improving them? And what will the quality paid directory do in this case?
You make the choises, it's your game.

If you want deep links to your website, go for paid reviews at blogs (reviewme,ppp and so on) that will work. Not the detail page on a free web directory.

Whatifind - good point i try to get a broad range of free links, blog reviews and quality paid links and i agree with you that the quality ones are far better but i don't have that good a list of deep links directories, i will however checkout 'reviewme,ppp and so on' - cheers guys

do you mean a free directory that accepts inner page submissions or a paid directory with the Deep Link MOD?

I know exactly what a free directory is - I own 2 of them. I'd be willing to bet both of mine would stack up editorial wise against any paid directory and quite often would come out truer to category than most of them.

My older directory brings quite a bit of targeted traffic to those sites listed as well as offering them SEO benefits - I've seen their new sites rising in the search engines. (The second one is simply too new to judge.)

Yes, there are free directories that are worthless, just as there are paid directories that are worthless. Lumping them together and making blanket statements about one being better than the other is disingenuous and appears to be a poor attempt at marketing by many paid directory owners.

Instead of this attempt by many to create some sort of caste system among directories, more time should be spent educating other webmasters about what directories are, how they can improve a site in the SERPs, and how to identify those directories (free or paid) that are not worth even the investment of time to submit.

There has also been this trend that when someone asks about directories that accept deep links there is this assumption that they must be referring to those directories with the phpLD Deep Links mod.

Give me a break, you guys act like that mod is the only way to offer deep links on a directory - it's just one of many. Some of us allow the main listing to be to an inner page, others have article-type information with deep links on the details pages, and there are other mods and some scripts that offer multiple deep links additions to each entry.

Unfortunately, most of the original free deep link directories have moved to paid only.

Hmm most of the directories that have deeplinks mod (including mine) are paid. I certainly have never come across directories offering listings with deeplinks for free.

 

I don't think it's any accident that the single directory currently listed on that page has turned paid. There are free directories which offer deeplinks, but they are few and far between.
