BEST/ CRAZIEST Ways to Promote a Forum..

Hi,

I just purchased a forum www.Talkwebstuff.com forum. I am trying to find out from web site and forum owners here on DP what is the best way to do these things below:

1) Increase postings in the forum
2) Have user refer new users to the site
3) Increase the rate of active users
4) Drive targeted traffic based on the focus of this forum
5) Any PPC advertising tips that have worked for you
6) Best way to increase the site popularity and PR

Any other tips will be appreciated. Thanks

 

One tip is to get a specific topic that everyone is talking about on the web and have a link for some answer or rebutall.

Paying people to refer active members works. Pay $1 per active member referred. An active member would be one that makes at least 2 posts a day.

Use business cards
Be member on other forums, post as much as you can
Initially get somebody to post for you. Nobody will use an empty forum, so you have to fill it in to some extent.

 

i add one more way to promote your forum.... have posts exhange with other forums owners...

 

Start contests on your forum. Put in enough money together for a Nintendo Wii. Have a contest that for every 10 posts that are made you earn a ticket. At the end of the month there will be a lottery drawing, you will randomly choose on ticket. The more tickets you have, the bigger chance you have of being selected as the winner. Make sure to monitor the posts, and tell them that all posts have to be over two sentences to count.

I have a new forum and I was also looking for ideas as well because I'm having a hard time getting mine going.

If you have a forum for webmasters, then make it that each post that is made is worth 1 point. And that they can redeem the points for advertising space for their site. Like if they redeem 500 points, then they get like a 428x60 banner on the home page for a month.

LOL, don't forget about getting arrested and being on the news as well. Hey! that should get you some publicity. lol..good one here.

 

Those are a couple of great tips. I was thinking of getting a forum going as well. Now I may actually do it.
