How long before Google acknowledges a backlink

Discussion in 'Google' started by ollyno1uk, Aug 13, 2007.

I have recently been getting a few high PR backlinks.

I am wondering if anyone would know how long it takes for google to start taking account of the backlink.

I have noticed my position in the SERPS is improving but I have been working on SEO for over a year so, so perhaps, this is previous link building reflecting this?

Could it be that links added last week are already having a bearing or would Google put some time on a link to check its validity?

    Thanks

Who knows. We know that the SERPs are constantly in flux, so there must be something in the algo that causes this to happen. Links might be a part of that.

We also know that some pages are spidered & indexed every day; presumably the back links on those pages are accounted for at that time.

I would actually like to know more about this subject myself.

First of all, a Googlebot has to find the new backlink. That can take up to a week or more, depending on the crawl rate.

Second, many SEO experts believe that Google uses an aging factor on a backlink, so that they give greater weight to it as time passes. Thus, the initial effect will be small, but will gradually increase.

This is what I suspected which means that if I have recently got good back links, the good results I am seeing may be just the start of the result rather than the end result of obtaining that link

If the link has juice, it is very fast as internal pr is updated on an almost daily basis.

I doubt that your improved position has anything to do with your newly acquired links, likely to be something you did in the past, could be 2 or 3 month ago.

Thanks. I am more than happy to be patient. I had hoped that this was work that I had done in the past which means things are going to continue to improve!

Thanks for the feedback to all

Somebody sez the link juice works within a day, somebody sez it takes months.

I suspect it's actually somewhere in between (though closer to daily).

So which is it? I'd like to hear more opinions and maybe some evidence or solid reasoning. Thanks.

is it true? when a trusted (from dmoz listed site? ) backlink indexed.it may take 1-2 days to take effect on serp. if it is not trusted backlinks, it should take effect for long time( weeks? month?). it is my story, you?

Google acknowledges the backlink as soon as they update it in their index.
Whether or not it affects your SERP is an entirely different story....

interesting. What I can say is that I have recently added my site to the yahoo directory, amongst a few other higher PR directories. I have gone from second page to 5th position in google.

Having said that, I have been working up through pages consistently for months now so it could have no bearing. I first noticed myself appearing on about page 40 several months ago.

I like to think that Google would base it on the time that a link has been present as well as just the strength of the link.

There is no defined timeline or time factor AFAIK..

every backlink carries some weight, how much it affects your SERP depends on the weight of the given link.

If weight is low, you wont notice a change in your SERP, but as the weight increases the changes occur in the SERP

Most true SEO experts believe that Google does apply a time factor to newly-discovered links.

May not be right about time factors. Look at how everyone get live.com's backlink

Google only display updated links every three months, but within three months of building links I think google count it and gives value to those links. They just don't display it.

Google has a scheduled update on backlinks, stay put on your site's backlink from time to time. :D
