I beg to differ, QBC is not only about money, its also about the ethics of our business and industry, (like brand stealing, fake domains pr...),also i strongly believe that free directories are one of the reasons that make paid directories lose a very important number of submissions because its an "alternative". and many will go for quantity instead of quality.

now lets talk about this guy, he is creating hundred of spammy .info directories with totally "unrelated" and irelevant names, same "design" if we can call that a design, no matter what he plans to do with them he is giving a very bad image to the directory industry. and this can be qualified as a QBC Act IMHO.

    cheers.

    i think its QBC

i bet he uses a SQL dump to populate the site, all on same IP, no design, no brand name, he will probably use phpnmyadmin to approve ALL the links, so there will be no review. hes probably on a free host, got adsense on there aswell.

is it any wonder people think web directories are crap.

For sure it is QBC... just wait to see what does with all those domains..

I bet he would put them on sale saying "Set of precious one English word domains with traffic for cheap, get them now for as low as $25"

For a buck info domain, that would be a quick money he would be making.

    Exactly ... I agree 100%

Just think how he is going to manage all those (so called) directories and what he will be doing with them after a month or so.

To me, he is just creating link farms and nothing more. These are the people who give bad name to Directory Market.

    I can read.
My webmaster will be templating them all.
    I don't have 100.
    I won't be selling them.
I won't be selling mass cross network links.
I appreciate that you all care and took the time to post.
Either post your links or move on, nothing to see here.

Well so far you are using a free script and an irrelevabt .99 domain for each directory.

I will look forward to your custom templates.

You guys are harsh & clickish. We are not in High School judging the style of someone's clothing or how tight Tiffany's ass is. If the guy has a gameplan ... leave him alone. If you don't like his sites ... don't submit your link. More importantly, I think 99% of ALL directories are absolute CRAP! Do you really think a new template or paying for a few (dozen) bad links really set your directories apart?

Rep added, I am not impressed either but to start namecalling by the other guys is just nuts.

So according to you 99% of the directories are absolute crap. boy, you have no idea what you are talking about, infortunatly this is called "blind ignorance" due to your lake of experience and knowledge about the value of quality web directories, personally i own 50+ "real" directories started and made from scratch, not dropped domains or .info spammy link
    farms.

Just 1 Featured link from my network (60 directories) with your targeted keyword as anchor text (titles) and you rocket in the search engines, 8 out of 10 of my clients saw a dramatic improvement in just 3-4 weeks after using my service, from nowhere in the 18th page of google to the top 10 for keywords as hard as home business opportunities, Free online games, office supplies.. i can go on.. and refer at least 15 DP members to this thread to give their testimonials about my service, their competitors was so upset that that started submiting to my directories one by one (not knowing that its a network of directories).Your comment was RUDE, and very disrespectful to all the Directories owners here who spent thousands of dollars and countless nights promoting their directories.

Now about this guy, i am not interested at all in what he plans to do with those so called "directories" but, having 100 spammy .info "directories" as a network on the Same ip, with the same "design" and totaly irelevant Names is definitely giving a bad image to the directory industry.

not only this comment has nothing to do with what i posed (you could have avoided making me write this post) because i never mentioned anything about what i considere a "unique" directory, and your theories about "tools" and "content" are really hilarious. So according to you DMOZ YAHOO and BOTW are "are not worth a crap" ? Because they dont have any content exept links in their pages? those are the top of the top, those directories are recommanded by google itself.

The directories content and force are the websites that they list (the titles, links and quality descriptions), but since u asked... here is what i think is a quality directory from a user point of view not a directory owner:

    - Traffic
    - Authority Statut
    - Unique Design
    - Deep links
    - lot of Quality Backlinks
    - pr of the internal Pages
    - the owner rewrite the descriptions
    - no sitewides

END OF STORY, u got it all wrong, what the hell am i supposed to do with your "tools" ?. if your directory cant give me Traffic or help my Serps Position then no thanks, am not interested, ur directory has no value for me, because thats all the users want (Improve their rankings, pr and receive some traffic).

ErectADirectory members here and on other directory/webmaster forums have stated time-and-again that one of the ways they decide on which directories to submit to is whether the owner has committed the resources to getting a custom template. I do agree that a custom template alone does not make a directory 'good' or 'valuable' but it is an important first step.

You sound like an educated person but my guess it you don't have much life-experience. I agree with some of your points but I still think folks like toolz, that jump in and open a network of dozens of worthless directories at a time are hurting the directory industry as a whole.

    - That pretty much sums up your experience in this industry.

Btw if this is your site http://www.erectadirectory.com/list/, the layout is broken in IE6

I encourage all different veiw points here at a public forum. I wanted you to write this reply. I didn't make the comments to make friends (c'mon I put 99% of directories in check). I did it to open a few people's eyes as to what an actual resource is. And if 2 people read my comments and do some research on it, I've done my job.

BTW: Spiders do not view the layout of your directory, so changing your template adds no value from a robot's point of view.

I said 99% so there are > 10000 directories out there. 99% would be 100 quality directories total. I'm sure you won't add mine to this list (I'm ok with this) but that is only because i made a post you don't agree with. I will challenge you to find another directory that the owner has put more man hours into than I have with mine. You won't find it. My blood, sweat and tears have gone into my directory. This includes much more than a new skin or a fancy paid mod that sorts my listings by PR. You know, the exact same tool that you see on dozens of other directories.

That stuff really makes you stand out doesn't it .....

PS: Be proud and sign your rep next time. Stop being a yanker

    hello...

Ok well i will tell ya that he did PM me and assured me that he will do his best and thats what matters to me.
He said he wont sell and ill hold him to that..;) If not then ill personally inform you guys..

As for all the reading material above ill get some coffee and start reading
    whats the real deal.. :D

Though i must be honest that the name calling (QBC) should be reserved for those that actually
commit a crime (to an extent) and all different avenues be researched before we throw that name out so flagrantly..

I guess maybe we need to give that person an opportunity to speak before we just shackle and chain them..

    thx

If I had a dollar for every 'directory' owner that made a post about how they intend to spend X amount of dollars and do X amount of promotion, etc. I would not have to work another day in my life.

Talk is cheap and you have to put action to your words. When someone launches dozens of identical directories in a few weeks and they have totally unrelated names on .99 cent domains and a free script I call it exactly how I see it. I hope he proves me wrong and I look forward to the day I can apologize to him.

    I'm not taking any sides.

Just a comment. Why do people care SO MUCH about custom templates? A piece of crap site with no authority or value is still a piece of crap REGARDLESS of HOW YOU DRESS IT.

I'd rather submit to a strong site w/ a normal template where the owner put his time and money into building strength not the appearance of strength.

That being said it does help you differentiate yourself but that's about it in my mind.

You are very much correct. However, a custom skin doesnt come cheaply. It can make people thing you care about your directory and want it to look different.

If two shops sold PCs at $500 each, and you wanted it. Would you go to the clean shop where the staff were dressed well, the shop was built well and looked modern and professional, or the run down dirty shop with broken windows and bad lighting? i know where i would go:)
