Hi guys I was wondering if it really worth translating a website to other languages. Except the obvious fact that helps reaching new customers, does it help in terms of SEO?

    Thanks for your help

I don't think its worth unless you are targeting specific countries like Japan, China etc

If you mean travel websites like in your sig then its sure worth to translate it. But you should make a good translation, if you can't make it properly better leave it.

SEO-wise I think it is not good to have a site in different languages, unless you have a separate (probably local) domain for it. Separate domain will give you more targeted visitors and better coverage.

I would make sure every language is on a different domain. This is arguable because you then have to worry about 2 domains or more in the search engines. Although i think with 2 or more different languages on 1 domain it will be hard to search engine optimize anyway.

    I agree

I disagree. I have a huge site with many thousands pages, half on English and half of Spanish on same domain, and is receiving a lot of organic (Search Engines) traffic to both languages. The trick for organic traffic is: good title/description on each page with proper keywords on page content.

Regarding the quality of translation is definetely going to be done professional!

Its going to be for this website www.stavros-studios.gr

The reason I want to translate the website is because I get a lot more visitors from other countries that dont necessarily speak English!

uhm..yes. I think its very overlooked that translation actually means NEW and unique content :)

So..instead of writing your new own and unique conent and you just use existing one and translate it: BINGO ! <-- you got new and unique content and no dupes on the web !

It doesn't help SEO unless you're aiming to get visitors from that market. But new content is good if you are.

You won't get penalized for duplicate content, though, if you translate your site to another language.

IMO it's a good idea. Don't forget to set the language meta tag !
And your translation must be good, quality text, optimised with keywords, don't run it all through a computer program to translate it.

Also one of the reason I wanted to translate this particular website is because there is not much new content i can add! I can write about the properties the area but that's all! With a good translation though (definitely not computer generated) I think that I will add fresh content on the site! What do you think?
