Why not just get your dream car?

If I was you, I'd get a Nissan Skyline or Mitsubishi Evo, or if you can a 350Z.

    g35 coupe man..
    350z, if you can want a 2seater
    g35 sedan
    nissan maxima

all would be used, but infiniti/nissan will last 200k no problem.

I have a 07 max, fully loaded, trust me nissan makes great cars..but the 350z is amazing, thing hauls ass.

For that budget you could pick up a really nice Mini Cooper S. It's a car with looks that you either instantly love or hate, but they drive like a go-kart on steroids, so you really enjoy driving wherever you go. Their build quality is also fantastic.

how come in america its quite reasonable for an 18 yr old to get a 5.7 litre V8, for the equivalent of £12,000.

in england, its virtually impossible to get anything more than a 1.6 and insure it for that price!!
