How important is a presidential candidate's religious beliefs to you?

Is a presidential candidate's religious beliefs something you consider? Is religion a big factor for you when you place your vote?

If you are not a US citizen, then you can apply the question to your own government or reply how you would consider religion in your vote if you could vote in the US.

Before the current administration I wouldn't say it mattered too much.

Now that we let an evangelical in, look what happened...

    It matters a lot.

If you ever noticed through all the swearing in's of US Presidents, I think, the majority all swore on the Bible when they took the oath of office. So how religious can a US President get>

And if anyone ever remembers how many times President Clinton and family in toe on some Sundays were snapped shot(media/press). Many times. He was also raised in the bible belt. He also served as Govenor in the bible belt as well.

So what if Bush is bible carrying president. Many laws have gone into affect that go against the grains of religious belief.

    I say so what?

Do you not vote because you are not in the US? If so, consider the question as if you could vote in the US. Sorry for not including those outside the US in the OP.

I will edit the OP to include those outside the US.

So you're admitting in an open forum that you have no clue there is a difference between someone who goes to church and an evangelical?

Evangelicals are "God Warriors" bro... and they mean business!

I'm really trying to look at what role religion has in the minds of voters. Does it affect your opinion on candidates?

I don't vote in Australia either (where I reside). I give scriptural reason why to the government.

    Why?

Unless that's something you'd rather keep personal.

Daniel 2:44 says it all. That's the government I want in and there's no need to vote for it. It's coming in whether voters like it or not.

    That's awesome.

Should I stock up on my God '2012 bumper stickers now? :)

I mean it coming whether I want it or not and all. Because the bible that we are told repeatedly in this forum shouldn't be taken literally or even at face value says so... right?

I would, if I were American vote for the person that is the most honest. Religion would not enter into it. Saying that, with the complete rag-tag buch of idiots aiming for President on both Republican and Democrat sides it would not be an easy choice to make at all.

Yeah I don't really have a favorite even myself.

Although the thought of a Clinton/Obama ticket would scare the hell out of republicans and would be worth the price of admission :D

I appreciate your opinion. It sounds like you have a religious faith that leads you to believe there is no need to vote because you feel that there is a destiny that is predetermined. If that is wrong, correct me.

To keep the thread on topic, if you could imagine a world where destiny is not predetermined, how would your religious opinions affect your vote?

ROFL. There's nothing stopping you. :D

That's what others might say but. Again, careful study will show there are parts that are literal and others that are symbolic. It's not difficult to discern.

As far as destiny goes. We can only see what the Bible says what the new order (or new system of things) will be like in the future. That's why I opt to not vote because for me to vote for a man made government would be pointless. Not that I would want to anyway. Man made governments have let mankind down in every way in the past. Their future is looking quite bleak.

To answer your 2nd question. I can't answer it. All because I would not vote at all.

    Col :)

Thanks for the response. So you don't vote and won't vote based on your religious beliefs?

From your post, it seems you look to the bible for your inspiration and that you feel you don't need to do anything other then let what the Bible has in store for us come into play at some point.

So, are you just going to sit back because you think some prophecy is going to be fulfilled?

Sit back? Hardly. I do quite a lot of work that Jesus laid out for us to do. I attend 5 meetings a week with my fellow believers and I also preach God's word for at least 70 hours per month as well as conduct Bible studies as well as do my own personal study and research. I don't think that would be classed as sitting back and waiting for things to happen.

Also, it's not a case of thinking some prophecy is going to be fulfilled. There is several prophecies being fulfilled as we speak. I know some prophecies will be fulfilled soon. There's not many left to go.

It sounds like you are very active in your beliefs. I can appreciate that, however, it seems you are unwilling to vote because you believe a prophecy is going to be fulfilled.

Does that mean you don't support any candidates? Do you have any concern for politics?

Correct. I can't see any benefit in choosing a man to lead our country (depends on which country you reside in), when we will be lead by our King in heaven soon. I have absolutely no concerns for politics. However, I do get the news now an then to see who is in power for now.
